Mana 3,867 #1 Posted March 15, 2010 The Steam client already has mentions towards micro transactions, but now we have further proof Valve: http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/SteamworksBrochure2010.pdf If Valve decides to sell hats and weapons in TF2 via micro transactions... we can kiss trading goodbye. What do you people think?
+Henry Spencer 117 #2 Posted March 15, 2010 I'd be willing to pay a couple bucks for a goddamn Medic hat.
Spartan_0214 18 #3 Posted March 15, 2010 It's people like you whom microtransactions target. Spending money for something not real, not affecting gameplay, and pretty much useless. If people weren't willing to pay for it, it would all be free.
Dashuu 11 #4 Posted March 15, 2010 As long as you can still find everything for free, I see no real reason to complain. Good on Valve for finding yet another way to make money on a three year old game. The only people I could see being upset are those that spend money on an item just to find it for free a few minutes later.

If people weren't willing to pay for it, it would all be free. I never bother with DLC unless I feel it's well justified. This is why I've never bought DLC before (unless a RB2 album release to play with Miyari counts). >.> Thing is, TF2 is different. I've sunk 1100+ hours of my life into a game that still manages to entertain me more than other games, the TV, movies, or books ever could. I don't see myself quitting it any time soon, so why not support Valve? Sure, microtransactions are a kinda shitty way to give players hats (when they could easily trade otherwise), but after 3 years of free, good quality updates... I can't hold it against them. I wouldn't ever buy more than the Mirror anyways... I know there would be plenty of people, however, that need them all as some sort of "status symbol". Those are the kind of people that makes microtransactions so lucrative.
kuttlewug 28 #6 Posted March 15, 2010 I would never spend money to buy something I don't need. Not that I hate you Valve I just haven't got any money to give.
kammy 2 #7 Posted March 15, 2010 I really wish people didn't complain so much about not getting a hat immediately. I for one do not think the random system is bad at all. I just hope valve doesn't expand on this any further and start charging for other things. I really hope they don't.
Spartan_0214 18 #8 Posted March 15, 2010 I'll start supporting Valve when they start sticking to their word. They said they would release Episodic Content. Where's HL2: Ep3? They said they'd support L4D. A year later? L4D2. Though they are somewhat responsive to the community, they come off as more than a little lazy. Releasing community maps during class updates? Really, Valve? I know you're busy not making games that the community has asked for, but still... And posting that there will be trading "soon?" Trading still hasn't come out, and they post this crap. Microtransactions? The bane of PC Gaming? Putting more console crap such as achievements onto the PC? C'mon Valve. You've heard the community, and I know you're listening. Start doing something about it. I'll gladly support you if you start doing what you say you're doing.
Graedus 9 #9 Posted March 16, 2010 Whatever. I finally got my first hat and it's the towering pillar of hats. I don't need anything else.

Willoda 0 #12 Posted March 16, 2010 Valve: I DUNNO LOL Microtrsansactions are ok in my eyes as long as the things you buy are just gimmicky and of asthetic value only. As soon as you start getting into being able to buy things that enhance your game to gain advantage over other players who havent bought into it then that's when I walk away from the game. I wont complain or whine about it because i'm too easy going for that. I'll just move onto another game that doesnt work that way. Let the fools part with their money if it helps valve. I'm no fool though
Spartan_0214 18 #13 Posted March 16, 2010 Wait. So you're willing to spend your money on useless things, not on something substantial and worth your while. Ah, America, how thou hath descended. I frankly don't think that any amount of money should buy an advantage in a game. I also disagree with unlocking systems for multiplayer. It breeds cheating and subversion. Which is why I like to play TF2. The only reason I've spent extra money on TF2 is because I frequent a server that a group of guys generally play on that I'd like to have a reserved slot on. Also, Valve hasn't fixed autobalance, so that's another reason. But that isn't a leg up in gameplay. It allows me onto the server I want to play on. Retsam 1 #14 Posted March 16, 2010 Sounds dumb to me. Id never buy any. You can use a free SM plugin and make/use any hats you want. While its not exactly the same, its close enough.

Ah, America Scotland, how thou hath descended. lol not me. I'd never part with my real money for a virtual item. Was just saying that I wouldnt complain if people *could* buy useless things but as soon as those things have any worth that affects gameplay i'll leave
Melissia 7 #16 Posted March 25, 2010 ah dun git et! Spartan, allowing people to buy a competitive advantage would ruin the game. Therefor he opposes it. However, he does not oppose allowing people to buy aesthetic changes, as it does not give a competitive advantage. If this is too much for your mind to understand, then I give my condolences to whoever changes your diapers
You suck and have no life 203 #17 Posted March 25, 2010 I'm all for spending money to buy a competitive advantage. Thats the way it is in real life, why should it be any different in a video game? A better computer gives you advantage A better mouse gives you advantage A better internet gives you advantage A better dietary program gives you advantage All these things require money. The idea that everyone plays on the same playing field is ridiculous.
