The in-combat version will play automatically when your units are fighting, but I don't think there is a way to make them play all the time. You can however customize the music to some extent through the 'play list' button in the settings for your multiplayer profile.

Play online in Gameranger.. There are players there that are incomparable to the stupid, hacky Ai in BR.

That is not true. Battle Realms is more than 8 years old, and as a result the player base, particularly in GameSpy, has all but evaporated entirely. You should use GameRanger, as the vast majority of the remaining players do. gameranger Winter of the Wolf is standard in GameRanger, so if you don't have it then you should download it from my signature below:

Is it possible to change the max screen resolution in BR? Currently it is locked with 1280 x 1024 as the max, as far as I can tell.

I have never been able to get it to work with any higher than 1280 x 1024 in the .ini file. I guess the game is just coded that way.
