kammy 2 #1 Posted March 15, 2010 Mana, have you ever thought of starting some l4d servers? Although I don't know what the scene is for l4d2, but in my opinion, there just aren't any good servers in l4d and none of them I've seen that people like to frequent. I guess you can blame the matchmaking for that. Anyway, is there any chance that you might start a couple of your own servers? At least I would definitely play on them. Lol. Victoreem the V of doom 30 #2 Posted March 16, 2010 Doubt it. There aren't many people that play l4d enough for Mana to make a server for it. Also it gets old fast. I know we've had a 12 player campaign run on expert with the horde limit at like 500. That was fun *wink wink eyebrow eyebrow*.
Mana 3,867 #3 Posted March 16, 2010 We had LFD servers once. But they're just a waste of money. There's no point in running servers for a game that has no server browser and only holds 4 to 8 players. If I wanna play LFD I'll just start a server myself. My internet is plenty fast. kammy 2 #4 Posted March 16, 2010 Hmm, yeah I figured you'd say that. It just sucks since I play expert a lot and griefers are such a huge problem in expert and sometimes in versus. Just wish there were some established expert servers where they constantly perma-banned the damn griefers. I wish they never put that damn matchmaking in. It totally doesn't encourage communities to form and it seems to always puts you in a laggy server. I try sticking to the server browser when I can. The hybrid system totally doesn't work. You guys keep a really tight shift going on with your tf2 servers. It'd be awesome if there was something like that in l4d. They did add in the feature that when you join a steam group it links the group's servers right on your menu. Perhaps that would encourage more play? Meh probably not like you said. I guess the way the game is structured such as playing through an entire campaign and everything doesn't exactly encourage server growth. Just onetime play on whatever random server you do then never go to it again. Did Valve really think people would want to maintain their own servers on this game with this damn matchmaking? Tried that the moment it came out for LFD1, and many times after. 1) It works only half the time. 2) It has no protection so you can add servers to any group, for example the official LFD1/2 group. 3) Valve doesn't care enough to fix it. There's people hosting free dedicated servers for them, and even if there comes a time when there's not enough dedicated servers... there's still listen servers made by people on the spot which go away when the person quits (while also ending your game abruptly). I see. I didn't know it didn't have any protection. That's a shame. Well thanks for keeping me informed! Hopefully someday all my dreams will come true where I can play l4d with a regular constant group of people on a nearby server consistently. A man can dream. A man can dream. Irradicator 118 #7 Posted April 11, 2013 I dont suppose this is worth re-igniting? But for L4D2, I just got gifted it today and a fair few people in the clan play it. I imagine its still a no to a server for the above reasons, but I just thought if I don't ask then there is no chance of a Lotus server.
