Dashuu 11 #1 Posted March 18, 2010 Starting a frag video project for editing practice. I frequent the lotus stock servers, might get a little 2 fort in as well. Just posting this as a heads up. I figured I'd follow around some other players than just myself, as I'm not that great a fragger. If you have any experience making frag videos or even just some general editing experience, I'd love some advice. If I manage to make some decent videos, I could see posting them to the youtube. If you do not want to be shown pwning the noobs, let me know. I really don't expect to be showing these videos to anyone outside of my editing class, but I'm of that 'better to ask' school of thought. P.S. Any help or advice at all on the project is appreciated.
phantom 29 #2 Posted March 18, 2010 you have to use let the bodies hit the floor by drowning pool for music.
Dashuu 11 #3 Posted March 19, 2010 Lol, I was actually thinking of that as one of the songs. I'm also going to use Skwisgaar Skwigelf's Crush my Battle Opponents Balls if I can work it in. I'm going for 300-500 hours of footage before I even begin editing, so who knows how many videos I'll be able to make. I'm hoping at least one decent one. Paul Bunyan 13 #4 Posted March 19, 2010 I know phantom was being sarcastic, but were you? Please say yes. What are you using to edit?
Dashuu 11 #5 Posted March 19, 2010 Yes. Though the thought did cross my mind.(It's almost traditional with frag vids) The song I mentioned will more likely find it's way in though. I'm using Sony Vegas 9. I have no idea what I'm doing, but there's a ton of material online. That and the whole class thing.
Paul Bunyan 13 #6 Posted March 19, 2010 Sony Vegas 9 really isn't as hard as it seems. After messing around with it for a day or so I pretty much learned everything you need to know.
Dashuu 11 #7 Posted March 19, 2010 Yeah, it's actually pretty intuitive.
Dashuu 11 #8 Posted March 21, 2010 Lesson 1, a 40 minute demo takes about 100 minutes to compress.
Spartan_0214 18 #9 Posted March 21, 2010 Ouch. I'd supply ya computing power if Ah could...
Dashuu 11 #10 Posted March 23, 2010 Yeah, a nine minute video today took me almost 50 minutes. I either need to accept a lower quality of video, a different codec, or get some more serious hardware. At least the demos come out looking great once compiled.
Spartan_0214 18 #11 Posted March 23, 2010 What resolution and codec are you using? If you're putting it up on YouTube, you don't really need it much higher than 720p, really more than 420p. It's nice if you have the hardware to encode that high of quality video, but rather unnecessary.
Dashuu 11 #12 Posted March 23, 2010 I'm using the xvid codec, and I was running them at full resolution. I've taken the quality down a notch and the compiling time is a bit more reasonable. I might end up posting some of these on youtube, but mostly it's just practice for class.
Spartan_0214 18 #13 Posted March 23, 2010 Ah. Yeah, DivX codecs are very lossless, but require a lot of time to encode and are very large.
