Disable In-Game Sound/voice Mute While Speaking?

Recommended Posts

I'm glad it's there for all the people that are using speakers, but it's just an annoyance for me since I'm normally using headphones.

In case the title isn't clear, I'm talking about the way all sound is practically muted when one presses the push-to-talk key - this includes sound effects and other people who are talking.

There's got to be a way to turn it off via console or something, but my google searches haven't turned up anything so far.

Edit:

Nvm, misread your post. Is there are reason why you need all the sound muted to speak when you are using headphones? The one thing I can think of is if you have a programmable keyboard or mouse you could try macoring the push to talk key plus the mute function to the key together.

Yeah, I actually figured that out and was just coming to post that. Thanks for the tip, even though I didn't end up needing it.

Also worth noting, you can enable "listen to this device" when wearing headphones in order to have monitoring so that you can actually hear yourself. There's a slight lag, but it still makes talking feel less weird when you've got sound-isolating cans.

A delay like that can really mess people up so the timing has to be good. At my old job we had the playback like that in our headsets and it was really easy to notice when the timing was off and I for one could not stand it. If the timing is right it can help when you have a headset that really blocks out the noise though.

I've been thinking it would help if I switched to a 3.5mm mic instead of USB. Might eliminate delay caused by drivers, etc.

But then again, if I'm buying a new mic I might as well just buy a headset I guess.

Best headset I have ever used in my entire life in terms of quality and comfort Razer Carcharias. Yes there are some crazy $100 or $200 or even $300 headsets with professional grade qaulity but the Carcharias is more then enough for gaming and it's the comfort level that does it for me. Super light weight and the padding on the ears never get hot and it does not pinch or squeeze your head in any way.

When I was working from home I was wearing my headset for 12 to 18 hours a day and never once has my Carcharias felt uncomfortable.
