JMaster299 654 #6 Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) TF2 does not properly detect modern hardware and will recommend lower settings then most systems can actually handle. Almost any computer that people are still playing on these days should be able to max out everything in TF2.As far as setting your launch options for Dx 9, I have never done that and the game defaults to Dx 9 all on it's own for me. Not sure why you had to force it to run on Dx 9 like that, it should do it on it's own. TF2 has never run on Dx 8.1 for me, and I've never heard of it running on Dx 8 for anyone else either before. Dx 9.0c was released 3 full years before TF2 ever was. Hell, Dx 10 came out just a couple months after TF2 did.Are you running on some sort of really old GPU that use Dx 8.1 still? JMaster299 654 #7 Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) Different levels of Dxlevel 9 are available and each one will add more complex rendering. dxlevel 90 < dxlevel 95 < dxlevel 98 Not exactly correct. There are only different versions of 9.0. 9.0 / 9.0a / 9.0b / 9.0c. That 9.0c is the last and is what everyone should be running for any Dx 9 game. But Awptimus Prime was talking about TF2 being set to Dx 8.1 in the video and needing to change it to 9.0 from 8.1 if you are having issues with crashing. No one should be running TF2 on Dx 8.1. There is some bad information out there about things like Dx 9.5. Dx 9.5 is just another name that is used to refer to Dx 9.0c. Part of this confusion started because it's listed in the HL:2 Ep: 1 game files as Dx 9.5 when it was really just 9.0c. That latest version is what added things like HDR to Epidsode 1. Anyone playing TF2 should be running it on Dx 9.0c. The Dx 9.5 name was also used to refer to Dx 9.0c on the Xbox 360. The settings in TF2 should reflect DirectX 9.0+, which will allow the game to run on the most current version of 9.0 that you have installed. Which should be 9.0c.
