Unfriendly behavior from Admin

Recommended Posts

I frequent Lotus Servers as I enjoy your servers and have been happy with your group in the past.  My friend Theronai and I often play on one of your Chicago servers, however we have a rather unpleasant chat earlier this night with Sphaqnum Peat Moss on the server. We had only been playing on the server for about 15 to 20 minutes and had called a votekick to kick someone who had been AFK that entire time.

Shortly after that, Sphaqnum Peat Moss asked my friend why he was calling so many votekicks.  We had only called one and Sphaqnum said we had called at least five, which confused us.  Apparently votekicks from times we had played on the server in the past were still showing up, and when we brought up this possibility Sphaqnum instead became rather hostile towards us about kicking AFK people instead of letting them stay so the servers will fill.  When we pointed out that we would rather have bots that played over humans that did nothing, he simply left the server instead of responding.

I was very disappointed in his behavior tonight, as I have come to expect better from members of Lotus Clan, especially from Global Admins such as Sphaqnum.  I would have expected more from such a prominant member of Lotus, and wanted to ensure that this issue was brought to light.  I know that anyone can have a bad day, and if it was a one time incident that is perfectly understandable.  I simply hope that if it has not happened before, as I enjoy Lotus Clan servers and have come to expect better from a group that up until now has been nothing but good.

Thanks for reporting!

Do you happen to have a demo or screenshots when this happened?

Did this happen over chat or voice?

Not to say that we don't believe you, but we'll need proof before we can take action.

I joined the server after someone added me on steam and said they were unfairly votekicked (someone I'd previously helped when there was a hacker).  I went and asked what was up, since I saw several past votekicks in their history.  They said they were votekicking afks.  I said that afks get autokicked, so that can't be the reason.  I further asked why they would votekick anyone on an almost-empty server, since they aren't preventing anyone else from joining.  He said it was because a bot medic was healing the other person.  I explained that calling for medic will make the bots heal you while also explaining that it's better to have population in order get more population, and I left.  I did not issue any warnings, kicks, bans, etc.  I simply investigated a complaint, didn't see any evidence of intentional foul play, suggested a better alternative, and left.  If you think asking questions to determine if there was abuse is unfriendly, then there's nothing I can do for you. I'd rather clear your name than risk letting vote abuse go unchecked.

My chat log (nothing was said over voice chat, these are the entirety of my words from joining until leaving the server):

5/20/2015 4:20 having more humans will attract more humans.
5/20/2015 4:20 try that, or a votescramble.
5/20/2015 4:20 bots will heal you if you call for medic.
5/20/2015 4:19 apparently not, since the bots were standing around doing nothing too.
5/20/2015 4:19 the server isn't full, so their presence doesn't really hurt anything.
5/20/2015 4:19 ... so you'd rather have bots than attract more human players?.
5/20/2015 4:18 why? we have an afk auto kicker.
5/20/2015 4:17 please tell the truth.
5/20/2015 4:17 no, you started 5 votes.
5/20/2015 4:17 why do you keep votekicking people from a near-empty server?.
5/20/2015 4:16 so that's not it.
5/20/2015 4:16 if they're afk, they get autokicked.
5/20/2015 4:16 Knox, you mind answering?.
5/20/2015 4:16 5 votekicks, it's starting to look like vote abuse, unless you have an explanation..
5/20/2015 4:15 Knox, why are you votekicking people on a near-empty server?.
