Sonja 0 #1 Posted August 18, 2008 My friend has an OpenBSD server. Is it possible to host a TF2 server on it? If so, what's all the information and files I should send him on how to set it up? Is there also a general tutorial or info file that shows how to configure general server stuff like map rotation, welcome message, number of players, party hats, etc.? sonja
Mana 3,867 #2 Posted August 18, 2008 My friend has an OpenBSD server. Is it possible to host a TF2 server on it? If so, what's all the information and files I should send him on how to set it up? Is there also a general tutorial or info file that shows how to configure general server stuff like map rotation, welcome message, number of players, party hats, etc.? sonja What are the specs of it and the connection speed? I haven't tried running it on OpenBSD (I ran servers on linux before) as I use Windows currently but you can try it out. You can get the updatetool for the server from Valve: http://www.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.bin And then updating/installing will be something like ./steam -command update -game tf -dir "home/blah/" And starting would be: ./srcds_run -console -game tf +map ctf_2fort +maxplayers 24 +sv_pure 1 +tf_birthday 1 -autoupdate Mapcycle is located in the file called "mapcycle.txt" and the maplist file is called "maplist.txt" the welcome message is stored (in HTML form) in a file called "motd.txt" and all of these files are whitin the "orangebox/tf/" folder. Good admin plugins for TF2 are Beetlesmod and Sourcemod
Arcelios 0 #3 Posted February 24, 2009 I have never run a FreeBSD server, but I suppose it's pretty similar to the Linux variety. Mana covered it pretty well, but I would add that the hldsupdatetool server doesn't install a server.cfg file with the default TF2 installation. A simple google search for "tf2 server.cfg" will turn up a host of server.cfg files that allow you to customize various things about the server without having to specify them whenever you start the server. Also, there's a good list of server commands here: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Co...edicated_Server .
