integrii 0 #1 Posted July 26, 2009 Heya Lotus clan, I've been playing TF2 some on your servers and they're great... however something came across my mind. You see, I just started a dedicated server hosting company and have a few clients already after five days. My servers are not oversold and offer full FTP access along with a control panel that has webFTP and start/stop control of multiple servers at once. My offering is this: I think I could host your servers at a better price with a better ping and performance. I standardly run the dedicated server at 1000 FPS and 100 tick. Migration to my system would be as simple as FTPing your files into place on my system using any ole' 3rd party client. Perhaps I could start and prove myself with a single server or possibly two so that you could make a better educated decision. I know it's hard to move your players over to a new provider, but I think I could host L4D or TF2 cheaper and faster than what you have now. Someone let me know! I appreciate all of your time! Thank you! -Eric from Hostedd.com http://hostedd.com/team-fortress-2.htm I have a 16 man test server at 100 Tick and 1000 FPS hosted here: 69.197.162.40:27015

Anyway here goes. We are definitely not looking at switching hosts right now. With our system it would not be as easy as just uploading files via FTP (full OS access is required to setup/install certain things). When it comes to 1000 FPS we can actually do better than that (and already do on 3 servers): 21:40:13 CPU In Out Uptime Users FPS Players 78.40 81916.34 278013.72 1754 16 4739.34 30 21:42:51 CPU In Out Uptime Users FPS Players 49.33 77401.70 216158.11 2494 10 142857.24 28 We could do this on all of our servers. That would just require an OS switch. But because everything is working fine we're not going to be switching OSes on all of our servers and so a move would be... well even less likely to happen. EDIT: Also TF2 is locked to 66tick. The only Valve Orangebox engine game to allow tick rate switching by command line is Day Of Defeat: Source.
integrii 0 #3 Posted July 29, 2009 Thanks for your reply! I appreciate your time to get back to me. I'm not sure where that FPS measurement comes in, but the source engine maxes out at 1000FPS. I'm also not sure what kind of system you have which requires more than just FTP access, but I would be willing to learn if you had time. I also host L4D servers, so maybe you could consider me on that! At any rate, if you ever need anything in the ways of game hosting, I pride my service on being very friendly and customizable. Thanks again LotusClan, see you in game! Edit: I did not know about the 66 tick rate cap! Thank you!

Tick and FPS caps can be changed or removed completely via special plugins . We are actually able to run TF2 servers at 16K FPS on both Linux and Windows now. Though currently it is FAR more stable on Linux.

That's really incredible that you've got your FTS jacked up so high. I take it you lease your own boxes and crank up the power as high as you can?
