After comparing my stats with phantom's stats, I was just curious what everyone else thinks about the value of teamwork vs ranking?

For instance, I got into an argument the other day with some troll on my team who insisted that as he had the most points on the team (By a negligible amount) he was therefore the most valuable asset, and it was not his fault we lost. When in actual fact, he was the only player not to push the kart throughout the whole game, and often having one extra player focussing on the objective, rather than k/d ratio can often win/lose a game.

Some interesting stats for me vs Phantom:

K/D Ratio:

Me - 0.75

Phantom - 6.31

Win %:

Me - 42%

Phantom - 29%

(Don't laugh at how much I suck)

I also think most of my poor k/d ratio can be attributed to the fact that I like to get the most of every game so I have played equal amounts with every class up to the point where there is only about 10 mins of play time between most played and least played. This made me a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none. But I also have a good understanding of the roles of each class in playing the game

I would venture a guess that a good 70% of the top 100 simply are stat whores and play to max their stat gains. The entire Stock 2 server is the guiltiest server of this too. The constant team stacking is evidence of it.

It has gotten to the point that unless you play ridiculous amounts of time, or refuse any situation in which you might possibly die despite the effect it might have on team victory, you can't compete in the ranks. It is basically pointless to have ranks associated with the stats.

Well the only thing I concern myself with now is the win %. I am contributing to my team and helping us win or not? Most of the time I find myself going medic because my team either has just one or none. But I WILL change class as needed given whatever situation. I'll fully admit I'm stubborn sometimes and am dead set on playing one class because that's what I want to play.

This is TEAMfortress 2 so I don't really think the stats tell the true story. Phantom is on top but has a win ratio of 29% which is nothing spectacular. (mind you my win % is worse). Take this random person I found in stats. pilvlp Win 62%. Why is this person ranked 2491 (as of this moment I type this) when this person is, no offense to phantom, clearly a more valued person to have on your team. Perfect set up and having this person on your team means you'll likely win more than half the time.

Stats show how many points a person has not their team value. That's my 2 cents for now.

Why anyone would ever think K/D really matters is beyond me. If I have a K/D ratio of 10:1 but you look at my kills per minute and it's like .8 what does that tell you?

If I play one map, on defense only, with a high assist ratio but have a K/D ratio of 10:1, what does that tell you?

If I play one class with a pocket medic, and camp corners all game, low KPM but high KPD, what does that tell you?

The points are cumulative, which means they're pointless. You play more, you'll be the top dog. KPD doesn't matter at all and is heavily affected by the maps and classes you play.

Those that are most important to their team are the ones willing to die for their team, the ones who don't mind switching to engineer to upgrade everything, the ones who will gladly take a stat hit to win. I just play the only way I've ever played, which is aggressively and to win. If my stats are good, great, if they're not and we still win, I'm happy.

If you want an idea of what a good player is, go play on MGE mod servers vs top competition or play lobby with decent players. High KPD on pub servers are rarely indicative of anything other than a specific style used to have the best stats.
