Hail, fellow TF2 players!

I have come here today to talk about a few things. Regretfully a few more then I wanted to after something that happened this morning, but I digress. Originally I wanted to just make an introduction, being a lurker of the forums since I first joined the Lotus servers. Time went by, and after a few months of playing on these servers (and subsequently delaying the introduction post) some questions arose. So I was just going to throw it all together, and had it all pretty much written out. Much to my surprise, however, I have been banned from all Lotus servers this morning. So now that you cut me cold turkey of my newly found addiction to TF2, I guess no time like the present eh?

Ice Hockey (Go Wings) both watching and partaking in, gaming, smoking cannabis (medical marijuana card, I do not support doing illegal drugs), programming, avoiding my crazy ex, and jogging (not related to avoiding my crazy ex) take up most of my free time. So I guess you can consider them my hobbies. I love my family, friends, dogs, and the few things I have in life that I worked my butt off for while going to school full time. I have a live and let live policy, I enjoy making people laugh, I go out of my way for most people I know, I never raise my voice to anyone and I give respect in the same amounts as it is given. About it for the personal details, but if you must know more I have linked you to my Facebook, and my forum handle is the same that I use for Steam, so I will see you in game.

The first server I ever played when I first came to TF2 about three months ago was the

. To this day it remains the only server I play on. Being the first map I learned the game on, I think it holds a little more dear to my heart then other maps. When I first logged on to this server, and to TF2 for the first time... I was a little taken back, I must say. Not by the game-play, or the graphics, these had me hooked in no time. Taken back I was, more by the people on the server and how they acted. I was a new Black Box (dropped soon after I logged in for the first time) Soli, a little over his head. Admittedly, I am new to PC gaming; save over 13000 hours I logged in on World of Warcraft, but I still never would of expected such an environment. This coming from a guy who plays Xbox LIVE frequently. People cursing at each other, people bragging, people arguing. Chat spam, Mic spam. Racist comments being flung every which way. Wall hackers, trigger bot users, people voteban/mute/kicking for no valid reasons. Layer on never seeing an admin or people get in trouble for their outrageous behavior. Having all that on my plate while learning a new game in a faster paced server (instant spawn) was a lot to handle.

Over a few months of playing, and getting better, I slowly learned what a troll was, and why everyone acted the way they did. It was then I could take two path-ways. Get killed, angry and riled up over people deliberately being jackasses and showboats to me, or be better then them; skill wise in game and troll wise. One particular troll is named "******************", all asterisks. He calls himself Snowflakes. While learning the game he would destroy me skill wise, and say "IM DA BEST" after every kill he got on me. Drove me nuts, but also drove me to get better. Time passed, now with an average kill death ratio of 3.7, and now being able to DOM Snowflakes when I try, I turned "IM DA BEST" around and started saying it to him. For the first time in months since I been practicing, has anyone ever seen Snowflakes on that server get upset and respond with anything other then his marco "IM DA BEST". It was then I realized what trolling does to people. Takes them out of the game to type a response, and gets them so focused on killing you that they slip out more often. Those were two constants that I found in anyone successfully trolling anyone else on this server, and I have killed many chatting players over my hours played. Why tell you all this? Because good folks, I am a troll. I do not deny it.

I tell you this because in the Questions section coming up I will ask some questions regarding this. Also, when I say I am a troll, I consider myself the light calorie version. I never insult (save for people on my buddy list when joking around), I never make racists comments. I never spam chat with the same thing over and over within seconds of each other, I never mic spam. I do not exploit and I do not hack. What kind of troll am I? The one that is an actual good player, mixed in with a egotistical troll line (IM DA BEST) I say only after I DOM people. Why say it at all? The troll line, mixed in with me actually being able to DOM people I set out to; gets an occasional guy upset... which is by design. I find it the sports equivalent of 'talking smack' to get into the opponents heads, and it works. Many times I had opposing snipers talking in spawn instead of fighting my team off, or find the occasional guy writing me a message outside of spawn for a free kill. Even being a troll, the majority of people on that server respect my skill. They know I am a team player always calling out over mic enemies positions, they know that besides the "IM DA BEST" troll line that I use, that I am a fun guy to team with. As it stands now, I am consistently one of the top players every time, I am known as a 'Regular', my buddy list has been growing daily, and I am having a lot of fun now being one of the guys, instead of the confused newbie.

1. Is trolling against the rules?

This question is being asked because of what happened when a Admin first came to the server I play exclusively. Afronanny I believe. First time ever seeing an admin, I jumped at the chance to ask him a question I had wondered since I started. After proving to me he was an admin which he politely did upon my request, I asked him if trolling was against the rules. I do not wish to break rules, and if he told me it was then and there I would have stopped. But much to my surprise he told me that it "was not against rules"! Great, nothing I have done thus far has broken any rules. I then asked him about racists comments, and to my surprise again he said "technically not against rules"! I don't say anything racist. I even told him I had a problem with people that say racist comments which he then responded with calling me the 'N' word. It was a joke, and I took it as such. I can appreciate an admin that's laid back . But here I sit banned today, but more on that in the 'Concerns' section. So for this question, what I would like to know is;

Is trolling against the rules?

2. Are spray tags viewable by other users?

I have had a few people tell me they have seen my spray, and a lot of people that say they can not. I had people tell me sprays are turned off, and some people tell me they are not. The same admin said that if I can see my spray they work, but for some reason I feel like there is more too it then that.

Why can some people see my spray while most can not?

3. Is spawn camping allowed?

Personally I hate spawn campers. Some people claim it is against server rules, others say that's bull crap. Just would like an official word on this.

4. Is constantly trying to votemute/kick/ban some one a punishable offense?

I have told you guys that I am a troll of sorts. Earlier this morning however, I didn't say a single word to anyone. No troll lines or anything. Some guys joins the team

, one says he hates my name, and try's to ban me. The first few times the vote went through to the 'yay' or 'nay' and most people selected 'No'. But after literally five or six times he tried getting the vote up, more people started selecting 'Yes'. Why? No clue. Still was not responding to them, obvious trolls, was not saying a word. Maybe they were sick of seeing the vote pop up, no idea. But they got me banned for thirty minutes by constantly putting me up to vote.

Is this against the rules?

1. Being banned

Now earlier I talked about when I first met the admin Afronanny. He told me trolling was not against the rules. But what I did not mention earlier, was that after he said that, he also said he has "already heard about me", and that "a few people have complained" about me already. He also told me one more complaint and I will be banned. But I asked "Why? You said trolling is not against the rules, so there for I am doing nothing wrong". He then said "It's only against the rules of it disrupts the server". I never do disrupt the server though. In fact, except for this random occurrence this morning, I have never been votekicked/banned/muted ever in my history of playing that server. Surely I am not making THAT many people mad if most people select No to these votes, right? Also going on what Afronanny said was allowed, I have broken no rules that I am aware of. So why am I banned? And why does people complaining about me being a troll, when I was told is legal, reason enough for a ban?

posted by AnoMoLouS. Afronanny said one more complaint and I am banned for a bit, even though I always followed the rules according to him. So already being confused, this thread just made matters worse. Am I to be banned for not breaking rules other then being complained about? Whats more is that his thread is half the truth. What he did not tell you was that I spectated him. Found his 'accuracy' with the Ambassador to be a little too bot like, like falling in air from battlements and sniping my sniper in the head as a spy while falling. I was not the only one to think this either! Did he tell you the vote went through the FIRST TIME 15 Yes, to 3 No? Apparently I was not the only one to think he was hacking. I talked it over with some of the team, and they all agreed and wanted him gone. Hence the voteban. Where is the broken rule? And if I am to be punished because I am troll, even though I don't spam, make insulting or racist comments? And even if all my past trolls were punishable because trolling is not really allowed and this admin lied to me, he gave me ONE final chance to not get a complaint before a temp ban. Is this thread complaining about me votebanning a guy that the majority of the server wanted gone warrant enough to punish me?

I feel like this ban is unwarranted.

And would like to formally ask for a Ban removal

on the grounds that whether trolling turns out to be allowed or not allowed, this man was not upset about me being "disruptive" or trolling, just upset that he got a thirty minute ban. One that, again, the majority of the server voted yes for.

2. Admin Abuse

The more I try to put myself in Afronanny shoes, the more concerned I get. This admin joined for the first time, said he was here to clean up the place, but then says trolling is allowed. Well trolling is the worst thing on that server since I been playing, but he claims it is within the rules. So here we have an admin, looking to throw some weight around to clean this place up, who came onto that server 'already hearing about me' and giving me a final strike for doing nothing that he said was against the rules. So right off the bat he seems to not like me very much. Sucks, because if he got to team with me for awhile instead of going off what a few complainers have been saying, we might of got off on a much better foot. But to be quite honest here, as it stands, it sort of feels like hes got it out for me. Not to say that it's his fault his impression of me is not that good, I am a troll of sorts after all. But I can not help but feel that this swift ban I got, for the thread I linked up above, was the result of his dislike for me. Which leaves me to wonder... If I did get this ban lifted, or I did wait it out, what is stop him from using this pick and choose administrative powers to get rid of me again? Is there any higher level admin that reviews these decisions made? There any sort of security I can find playing on this server again without the fear that an admin who might be trying to get rid of me out of personal reasons, will have the last say if he chooses to ban me again?

If you made it through all that text, then you good sir, deserve many internets. I apologize in advanced if this thread is in the wrong place. It covers many topics from personal details about me, what type of player I am, ban removal request, and worries of current and future unfair treatment. If I need to make a new thread in the ban removal section to have my case reviewed I will be happy to do so. I thank you for your patience, your time, and your opinions. 2Fort 24/7 Chicago is my home. I wish to play on no other server.

- Please don't take anything I said personally. We're strangers, and you could very well be the best admin on the Lotus servers. I only wrote what was on my mind, and how I feel from my perspective about your actions and mine. I am no fan of bad first impressions, on either side, and hope that maybe in the future we will be DOMing some people together as friends instead of as admin to player.

- Just wanted to say thank you for providing us with many varied dedicated servers to this old game, and keeping the fun alive. I have ran many dedicated servers myself, from Counter Strike to Ragnarok. It required time, money, patience and work. Once I actually have an income again, I can put my money were my text is, instead of just telling you that we all appreciate it. But it will have to do for now.

Did you seriously have to ban him? It's not really his fault that they are getting angry at him for something they started, like saying how they are better than him, he is just trying to prove them wrong and i think they are taking it way too seriously. Especially Xolid he whines about every single time he gets killed he says things like "oh thats so pro" "w+m1" every single time he dies. If you should ban anyone it should be Xolid because he trolls the server everyday.

Ever since i got into tf2 again since my many months of being away playing other games i started to play on 2 fort and met poush. at first i was mad at him for being to good x). but then i joined him and became friends. i have lisioned to people complain that he haxs and hes to good. i have only seen him once do a vote kick and ban, and it was on himself to see if every one would do it both votes failed epically i might add. the only troling he does is im the best after every kill... and from what i have seen only 1 other person can come close to his kills when hes on. no offense poush but luoluo is better x). i do believe that this ban was a load of crap. poush has done nothing rong. every one i know that plays except the ppl on there other team =P, love him and would hate to see him get banned for no reason. i have read the last post about what garent or what ever his name was said. and i believe that to be a lie. i hope what i have said helps in this.

I didn't ask, or want you to be banned. You accused me of doing something I don't, i can assume you would know what being falsely accused feels like. Headshotting with the ambassador isn't a easy thing to do, and the game I played previously with you was probably my best ever so far with that weapon. You claim i was using a bot but i certainly don't. I think your ban should be lifted TBH, just maybe you should not take it so personally when getting killed by someone who is luckier/more skilled than yourself (half my headshots being just that, luck). You said you were just starting out on spy and I would be more than happy to help you develop your skills, I just wish you didn't jump the gun on accusing and then trying to start a ban on me, because I did take plenty of time practicing and perfecting my ambassador skills, and am still working to make them better.

You certainly seem like a OK guy and perhaps we got off on the wrong foot, and I would like to play with you some more, just without this animosity between the two of us.

I should hope not.

Sprays are weird. I can see some peoples sprays, while others I cannot. I can see my OWN spray, but others cannot. I've even had people send me the same spray file they use, and tried to use it and only I can see it while others still cannot. I have no idea why this is.

It has to do with an exploit where clients can download files that they should not be able to access, such as server.cfg, which may contain sensitive information such as the rcon password. The exploit also allows clients to upload files, such as malicious server plugins, to the server. Disabling sprays altogether partially fixes this issue.

Also Linux SRCDS lags when the downloads folder has a certain number of cached sprays and it (SRCDS) can't find one.

Valve known about this since at-least 2005 when it was reported by multiple CS:S server admins.

Some of you may remember the pausing that Stock #2 experienced not that long ago.

One more point on the sprays - it could also be a client-side option. I have switched them off so that I can boost my FPS a little bit more (not much but every little helps ) - it is possible that others have done this and forgot about it or downloaded someone else's config with the option to not show any enabled.

With regards to your votebanning incident - while spectating did you get a demo? If you suspect someone of cheating you must get a demo otherwise you can't guarantee they get banned permanently and you end up in the 'my word against his' situation. The fact a voteban passed is definitely not proof - a large portion of players cant be bothered speccing themselves and will either take your word for it, or are under the assumption that if they're on a VAC secured server they cannot be using a cheat (idiots, yes); the majority also couldn't spot a hack to save their lives (possibly the obvious speed hacks, no-spread heavies or an aimbot in full 'rage' mode) and unfortunately it is very very difficult to spot a humanized aimbot to my knowledge (not entirely sure on the workings of VAC, only had experience with punkbuster myself - can admins request client-side screenshots like in punkbuster?).

Long story short, next time get a demo to back up your words. Also, your thread on forum is very eloquent and polite - very different to the brief glimpse I took at your chat log... if you speak more like you have in this thread then I doubt there will be any more complaints about your behaviour.

Look, I do not need to be talked to by an eight-teen year old about maturity. That's laughable. The fact that you even went there kind of tells me about your maturity level. But hey, lets address the actual important parts of your reply.

First off, I would like to say the 'SUCK MY DICK' comment to you, the way you are presenting it, was out of context. This was not too much longer after (And I can provide a screen shot if asked) you called me a "Nigger". So it was taken as we were joking around type of statement. You also claim that you 'warned' me that one more complaint and I would be banned, but then you yourself say that my behavior is not against the rules. This is hypocritical. Also, when I said "I do not spam the same thing over and over" I was referring to the trolls that spam chat so much it prevents people from reading other messages. Not that I do not spam the same troll line over and over when I dominate people. There ya go assuming things again. (;

People complain a lot when they get schooled in game, even when I don't use troll lines. It burns their ass that I am a really great player, and a really great troll. What you do not seem to be able to spin here is the fact that I have never been vote banned by the people. Often times by complainers they would get it to initiate but the majority of the server finds my behavior harmless, and a lot of them find it funny. Whats also not said is the difference of a player I am in voice chat, then I am text chat, but I digress. On the grounds that the guy who made his post complaining about me (the one that was the last straw to you) now feels bad that I got banned should say enough, if not because I have broken no rules, to unban me.

What trolling is banable should be left to the people of that server, and if it were I would not be banned today.

I really have nothing further to say to you. You obviously feel I should be punished for doing things that are within the rules, but because some (Never half, let alone majority) of players complain. Well I disagree. And furthermore, feel this ban is more out of your general dislike for me then my actual need to be punished. I rather you never speak to me again, on forums, or in game, unless its about doing your job (Which shouldn't happen if trolling is really allowed on the server). You can assume from now on when I am asking questions, that I will be directing them to other staff members instead. Okay? Alright. (:

Now, you asked me why I didn't demo the guy I got vote banned for hacking. The answer is simple. I may be a troll, but I am fair person. Lets assume he was hacking for my point. To me, I still would not wish a hacker a perma-ban. I would not wish denying anybody to play this game, because ultimately... what did he actually do to me? Lower my kill death ratio a bit? Plus there are ways to kill hackers, you just have to pick the right class. I figured a thirty minute temp ban (And so did many others as the vote ban went 15 to 3) would be more then enough for him to just go play on another server and hack. Everyone wins. So, I did not demo him to get him perma-banned because I am not a douche, and will never demo someone to get them perma-banned because I am not a douche. A lot of good it did me, as here I am banned today for fairly using the vote ban feature given to the players to use.

As for how I speak in game, I am a troll. I do it because it works. I have even named my guns "IM DA BEST" because those three words work so well. Now I am told that is within the rules, and really its the cleanest troll I see anyone on that server use. So while it's easy to say I am a douche bag because of my chat log, it does not paint the whole picture. Because when I am actually talking to my team via voice chat, or giving away free weapons to people that say and seem to be completely new to this server and game, I am a different guy.

I would like to ask you to be unbanned. I was told over and over that I do not break rules by my trolling, but was banned because people complained. Well if you allow trolling, then your allowing enraged players as well. Complaints will happen, and the more that troll is on the server, the more complaints there will be total. Honestly, been playing the hell of out that server for the better part of two months on a regular bases (Just got below the 1k rank in those two months), hence any complaint I got. I do not wish to break rules, which was why it was my first question when an admin first popped online, and if you deem my trolling above what is allowed I would stop in a heart beat. Reviewing my chat long, aside from talking to friends list people, my trolls are not harassing, and not racist. They are not spammed every second (like flooding for example), and I have never been a big enough troll to be vote banned from the server.

If my trolls are not allowed, then I would like an official word from you. If they are not and you agreed with Afronanny giving me a final strike, is my final offense worthy of a temp ban? I fairly used the vote ban feature, and the majority of the server felt the same way that I did. Then the banned guy came to the forum to complain, and I get banned as the result. Does that sound fair to you? I would also like some kind of.... security I guess you could say, if you find my trolling to not break rules. I very much plan on being a donater once I get paid from the new job I started, but would be wary to do so or even play on that server at the risk of Afronanny banning me again for what I was told was not against the rules. Can you help me?

Ok, opinion on cheaters is clearly somewhere we have differing opinions; I go out of my way to get cheaters banned. Yes there are ways to kill them - I've become pretty proficient with the huntsman... 1 headshot will take out all except for an overhealed heavy and occasionally overhealed soldier. However I feel that cheaters who use their exploits on VAC secured servers (i.e. servers where there should be protection against cheats) are the lowest of the low and don't understand how they get any joy out of it. They chose to risk tipping the advantage of play heavily in their favour- why help them avoid the risk they took and let them ruin the fun of potentially hundreds of other players? There are enough non-VAC servers where they can cheat as much as they wish and get owned by better cheaters.

The trolling, I will leave that discussion between yourself, the admins and regulars of the servers you frequent.

Hey guys, Maverick here (Can you believe someone already uses my nickname on here, I thought I was original!!)...Ranked on the 2fort InstaSpawn server 215 or lower cause "I'M DA BEST" (J/K!!)

Was just wondering a couple of things about what has been going on in the server...

1. Even though Poush didn't technically break the rules, he was banned because people reported that they had a problem with him. If the same number of people or more reported that they didn't have a problem with him and enjoyed playing with him, could that reverse the ban? As he said himself, he didn't even come up with the "I'M DA BEST" thing... that was all "************************************"'s (as we aptly named him "Snowflake") thing that we now use as sort of an inside server joke. Even I do it although usually only when I kill people I know/am friends with.

I was trying to think of a good representation of the situation. It's like back in public school lets say, and you are playing soccer in gym class. Poushanity scores a goal and yells out "I'M DA BEST!". Then the goalie, mad at himself for letting the goal in and mad at Poush for what he felt was a personal jab, complained to the teacher, Mr.Nanny (who happens to wear his hair in an afro). What does Mr.AfroNanny do? Well, he tells Poush that even though saying "I'M DA BEST" isn't against the rules in soccer, if any more goalies complain he will be banned. Well, a couple of shutout games later and we hear that some more goalies complained and now one of our star players (but not da best cause I'M DA BEST) is banned from playing soccer for 2 weeks. Did he break the rules? No. Did he follow teachers instructions to stop what he was doing? No. Should he have? I dunno, I don't work for the schoolboard and don't know much about the rules of soccer.

Where was I? Oh yeah, so basically I think the banning is unjustified. There are worse trolls in the server than Poush. The only reason he got reported was cause some people can't take a fun jab after an in game death. The server we play on is well known to us.The community on it even more so. We have server jokes such as the I'M DA BEST thing that maybe some newcomers just don't understand and take the wrong way. However, what I would call the server regulars understand and enjoy the competition and the "trolling" (I don't like that word as it makes it sound worse than what actually goes on). I think there are far more people on the server that enjoy Poush's company than there are that complained/don't enjoy his company. Let's throw up a poll!

2. Not to jump on the admin bashing bandwagon, and I wasn't there when it happened so I only have heresay, but AnimeAddict getting banned for votebanning an AFK player seems like a bit much. AnimeAddict is annoying as crap at times, votemute worthy even, but his banning seems extreme. Maybe a warning would suffice there? Not to tell you how to admin though. Now I don't mean this as a ban report thing, but if you wanna know about voteban/kick/mute abuse... come play when SurTails in online LOL!

3.Brobot got banned? Gotta admit I don't know anything about why he got banned or anything but when I started playing on your server he was pretty much there from the start. Never knew him to really cause trouble that I noticed.

P.S. = The ban on T0mmeh however is totally justified. I read his post and he thinks he is some caped troll crusader! LOL. That kid is a stage 5 nutjob.

Not exactly sure what you mean by "constant spew of garbage". Saying "I'M DA BEST"? I'll be sure to cut that out if it means a 2 week ban. Not sure who is PMi'ng you either, as the server has been seemingly fine since I started playing on it a couple months ago. It would seem to me that this person may be a new comer? Not that they deserve any less respect compared to a "regular" of the server or anything, just seems odd that the server seemed to be doing fine and people were having fun then all the sudden lots of regulars started getting banned. I guess the thing that gets me mad is that you say the guy that pm'd you enjoys the server more, but what about the rest of us? I think a large portion of the server was made unhappy by this decision to make a smaller portion of the server happy.

Also, I've seen you taunt after killing me on the server. What is saying I'M DA BEST but a taunt in itself? If it disrupts gameplay, then I can understand that and it can be a new rule that saying a taunt after a kill is against the rules of the server. But what seems to be abuse of power is when you say something is legal, then prosecute someone for it. Even if someone reported it. I could report my neighbours for planting flowers if I wanted. But just like trolling in the server, it's legal and in real life no one would prosecute them for doing something legal.

I think it might be a good idea to just forget about this whole incident, Poush can finish off his 2 week ban if you think that it's best for the server BUT one thing I would ask you guys to do is make it CLEAR what the rules are. Saying something is against the rules only if it gets reported seems to be a bad idea, and this thread is a good example as to why that is.

Old Rule:

Trolling = Legal (unless you get reported by the people who you trolled)

Opinion: That's like saying drinking and driving is legal unless you get caught by the cops. Can you drink and drive on the road? Sure. Are you going to know if there are cops on the road to catch you? No. Can you troll on the server? Sure. Will you know if someone is going to report you for it? No.

New Rule:

Trolling = Ban

Opinion: Fine by me! Put it on the server MOTD please and the trolling will stop.
