Smite player trying to get into Dota 2.....

Recommended Posts

So, I am a person who used to play Smite a lot. I want to switch to Dota 2. I have no idea what heros to use and all of that stuff. I know how a MOBA works and stuff like that.... I am just a noob when it comes to Dota 2. I want to know if anyone is willing to help me become a Dota 2 player? Thank you in advance!

You'll be fighting people off to help you :)

I'm not too familiar with Smite, so how about you tell us a little about your favourite hero(s) or abilities in Smith and we can figure out which hero's you'd like in DotA2, then we can work out who can help you...I for instance can explain how the game works, game mechanics, the support role but I don't play carry. Once we have a hero or two you like the look of we can play a couple of quick bot matches to get you familiar with them before jumping into a real game.

It's a great game we play every single night. The learning curve is pretty steep but if I can play it anyone can.

I already played with bots and I played one real game. I just don't know any of the champions, and i want people to play with lol. I usually never play melee, I like playing mage classes with AOE attacks. One example of that from smite is Ra the sun god. I also play Apollo, and the occasional Zeus and Poseidon. For melees I played Thor and Hercules. The only "support" I played was Aphrodite.

The whole list:

Ra

Apollo

Zeus

Poseidon

Thor

Hercules

Aphrodite

(Sorry for such a long list)

I will add to this list as I figure them out...you'll have to forgive my flexibility when comparing abilities, I am not at all familiar with Smite and I am relying on the wiki :)

Ra (Smite) is somewhat similar to Dazzle (DotA)

It seems like Ra is a little like Dazzle in DotA...Dazzle is a support hero who has a Poison Touch which when cast on enemys slows them and can stun them at higher levels...this seems a little like Ra's Divine Light.  For healing Dazzle has an ability called Shadow Wave which when cast jumps between allies healing them, and damaging any nearby enemy heros, this seems a lot like Ra's Solar Blessing.  There are no abilities similar to Ra's Speed of Light, Celestial Beam and Searing pain but you could get a dagon to give you a nuke which gives you some damage output...and there are other items that can increase your attack speed (such as a hyperstone) although you'll get a feeling for what you need by the way you play the hero and the heros that you are allied with.  At the end of the day Dazzle is a support hero.

The other two abilities Dazzle has which I haven't mentioned are Shallow Grave which when cast on an ally means he cannot die for 5 seconds, his minimum health can only be 1 health point.  So you can save them from death, get them out of trouble quickly and heal them or they can heal themselves or teleport away.  His final ability is his ulti which is Weave, which increases allies armour while decreasing enemy heros armour over a 24 second period.

You can read more about Dazzles abilities and the specifics here: http://www.dotabuff.com/heroes/dazzle/abilities

Ra is also a little like Lina

Lina's first ability is Dragon Slave which channels the breath of a dragon, sending out a wave of fire that scorches every enemy in its path

Her second ability is Light Strike Array which is an area of effect stun.

Her third ability is Fiery Soul, which grants bonus attack and movement speed each time Lina casts a spell. Stacks with itself. Lasts 10 seconds.

Her ulti is Laguna Blade which fires off a bolt of lightning at a single enemy unit, dealing massive damage. This ability is upgradable with Aghanim's Scepter.

You're no doubt thinking you have no heal, but that can be rectified by getting an Urn of Shadows (800 gold, also increases your strength making last hitting easier, allows you to heal allies) or a Mekansm (2300 gold, increases armour, heals allies).

The difference between Dazzle and Lina is that whilst they are both support heros, Lina can be played as a ganker in the early to mid game (basically going around looking for a fight once she has her ulti at level 6), or a semi carry and taking lots of farm and therefore gold and experience to gain levels quickly and get expensive items which really boost her damage output.  Getting her fat and keep her at a sufficient level is not easy though, she has a tendency to tail off towards the end of the mid game so you should either be pretty confident with her before trying this or go for a very fast finish (sub 35 minutes).

...oh yeah and runes top and bottom at the same time with a new rune...not sure about this but I reckon supports will now be expected to cover a rune at :00...you'll still need wards poss though as mid hero will want to bottle the usual rune and just take the bounty rune I reckon
