I've been playing on the Dustbowl Chicago for the past year. I tried logging in the past two days and I think I'm banned. I don't recall doing anything offensive and I'm not a hacker, so I'm guessing it was !voteban spam. Didn't mean to upset anyone and would love to stay on lotus servers.

You were banned for vote abuse + bindspam after having been warned in the past not do such things.  Your ban length was determined by 1 week per instance of votekick or voteban abuse, 1 day per instance of votemute abuse, and 1 day per instance of bindspam found in your history in the past couple days, which added up to a total of 14 weeks.  You can come back on December 20th.  You might want to consider a new profile pic too, as it violates Valve's TOS.

 

If this was all the information you were looking to gain, please say so so we can close the thread.  If you actually want to dispute your ban or its length please state the justification for reducing your ban.

I understand the votespam, but I don't even know what bindspamming is.There's  good chance I was reminded a few months ago about stuff like that, but I don't recall any recent warnings. If you have specific examples, that would be appreciated. Regardless, I want to avoid future conflicts with mods. Also the profile pic will change too (didn't know about the Valve rule)!

If you were hoping to get your ban reduced on the basis that you were not warned, that will not happen.  Warnings do not have to be recent, nor even given at all, when you are doing something as overtly disruptive as abusing votes.  Warnings are merely a courtesy to you, not a requirement to us.  Even so, multiple admins including myself have warned you repeatedly to cut back on the bind spam (your choice phrases, as I recall, tend to include "nice spam scrub" and "fuck me jesus"), griefing teammates, and other general disruptive behavior.

 

If you're genuinely curious as to what behavior of yours we've received complaints about (due to ignoring or forgetting past warnings), then here is a brief overview based on my personal accounts and the notes left by other admins on your player record:

 

Bindspam.  Repeating the same string of irrelevant text over and over serves no purpose and clogs the chat feed, which is a disruption to anyone who is playing the game to play the game, and therefore is not behavior we want to encourage.

 

Racism:  Though racism in and of itself isn't a bannable offense here (Lotus leans toward free speech on that one), when it is used in spam, harassment, toxic chatter, or other ways that cause a significant disruption to the server (such as dragging everyone into a discussion about the holocaust), then it becomes a problem.  Lotus servers are not paid for to serve as a place to broadcast political debate, religious bigotry, racist outrage, etc.  In your case, I haven't personally seen you do anything that comes off as legitimately racist, but your frequent use of racial slurs (namely nigger/nigga/nig) is one of many complaints we've received about you.

 

Inappropriate imagery:  Your profile pic and spray history is not one to be particularly proud of.  A nude female shoving a crucifix up her ass is a clear violation of Valve's TOS and not something anyone else on our servers cares to look at.

 

Vote abuse:  The bulk of your ban length in this particular case however stems primarily from the vote abuse.  These are Lotus' servers and Lotus does not want players abusing the voting system by trying to initiate votes without just cause or for an incorrect reason.  You did that, and so you've been removed from Lotus' servers.

 

So upon your return to Lotus in the future, it would behoove you to use profile pics and sprays that are less obscene, to avoid racial slurs or at least to use them less frequently so as to stop generating so many complaints about it, to stop spamming things like rekt, scrub, fuck me jesus, etc., and to not initiate votes for no reason or the wrong reason.  All of this is common sense.
