DarkClaw 0 #1 Posted April 19, 2008 I've heard about this new socket developed by Intel. Also about a new processor for this socket, being faster and sturdier inside the socket than the LGA 775 socket. It's supposed to use the Penryn, like the Wolfdale already does for the 775. Anyone hear anything else about it? It's supposed to come out next year actually, but it seems it's not well known too much.
Mana 3,867 #2 Posted April 19, 2008 Nehalem. 8 cores, 16 threads. Scheduled for 2009 (Wouldn't be surprised if it got delayed). Yeah it's been known for a while. I won't be upgrading to the First Mobos with the new Land Grid Array that's for sure. Better let others overpay for the processors and the first mobos and of course bug test them and then get them cheaper and better later .
DarkClaw 0 #3 Posted April 19, 2008 I guess that's true... why get a different mobo and proc and maybe even a lot of new stuff that's buggy, but MIGHT run faster, when you can get a proven to be fast much less buggy and cheaper mobo and proc that already works with the stuff out there? Actually, the transition might make it hard for Intel, almost like Vista was for Microsoft and the world, hopefully not though. Actually, the 45nm tech was a hit, and that is what they're using in the new proc, I believe? So maybe it won't be so buggy... we'll have to wait and find out I guess. Rambler 0 #4 Posted April 19, 2008 Yeah, not much takes advantage of four cores at the moment tbh. Eight cores just seems ludicrous.
