DarkClaw 0 #1 Posted July 7, 2008 This is just something I noticed... when it comes to video card memory, which would be better, 1GB at 800MHz, or 512MB at 1.4GHz? I saw this while looking through some old graphics cards and I was just wondering.
Melissia 7 #2 Posted July 7, 2008 The 1 gb would have my vote, personally... can't recall why, I read an article about it like a year ago x.x
Mana 3,867 #3 Posted July 7, 2008 Which video cards are you talking about? 8800GT with 1GB ram gets the same FPS as a 8800GT with 512MB in most games, and in the games that actually need more it's not much of a difference because it's just not that powerful. I'd say 512mb. But is this GDDR2 or 3 or 4 or 5? Up until recently most cards did not hit 1 GB ram and the few companies that made 1GB variants usually used slower ram or cheaper which just dropped FPS instead of increasing them. Just like how when 256Mb cards were just popping up... 128 cards were faster and if the games did not require over 128mb ram they easily outperformed the 256mb variants. (Latency and speed does matter).
