Mana 3,867 #26 Posted August 7, 2008 Mine usually drops down to 50 fps on intense fights. TF2 is also very CPU intensive, and I dont think it utilizes dual cores as much as it should. You should be getting higher FPS than me since your GPU and CPU are both better than mine, I have an Q6600 but I overclocked it to 3.1 ghz. Source does not use multiple cores much at all. It uses Core 0 100% and the rest between 2-5%. Also source is very CPU intense, where most other engines use the GPU which can do the same tasks much faster Source uses the CPU. It does not help that it's implementation of multiple core use is rather crappy. Hopefully they will have something better when Left Four Dead comes out. monkey 0 #31 Posted August 15, 2008 If you are planning on building a gaming rig right now, Intel is the way to go. If you wait a bit for the new Nehalem chips to come, the C2D chips and the C2Q chips will be significantly cheaper. As for a GPU, the 4850 is great. Inexpensive and has good performance at decent resolutions.
