kammy 2 #1 Posted October 25, 2009 Not sure how many of you played COD but how do you guys feel about this whole crappy situation? http://www.gamespot.com/news/6237497.html
JonasV 9 #2 Posted October 25, 2009 Old news. IW abandoned its PC roots long ago. When they churn out a game every year to 18 months that's mostly a rehash, it's really not surprising that they want to stop the mod/dedicated server peeps form dragging out the lifespan of their products. One of two things will happen. They will keep it this way and continue giving a middle finger to the player base, causing the multiplayer and modders to jump ship (probably). Or they will switch it back due to the uproar (unlikely). The way they are setting it up gives a major advantage in terms of latency to the host and is going to make it stupid easy to cheat IMO. Graedus 9 #3 Posted October 26, 2009 When I played CoD4 I never had a "favorite" server so I just whoever had a map I liked at the moment running, so I won't care or notice a difference I guess? But I agree with Jonas that cheating could be a concern. Perhaps that's why they're going the whole SteamWorks route though? Also, matchmaking via 'ranks' never works. kammy 2 #8 Posted November 2, 2009 VAC is very good at catching cheaters... oh wait. I was always under the impression that VAC was pretty flawless, at least in the detection area.
Rigormortis 15 #9 Posted November 2, 2009 Eh, as long as youre using the most recent, up-to-date third party software, VAC really doesn't even know what to look for. They catch most hackers when there is an unexpected steam update.
Mana 3,867 #10 Posted November 3, 2009 I was always under the impression that VAC was pretty flawless, at least in the detection area. If I decided to make a hack myself, and not share it. I doubt it would ever be caught. I know I manipulated the game DLLs (prevented steam from correcting them) and memory multiple times now for debugging purposes, haven't been banned. As long as you know what you're doing, you won't be banned.
Graedus 9 #11 Posted November 10, 2009 http://kotaku.com/5400855/modern-warfare-2-locked-until-thursday-for-steam-customers If you bought the game on Steam you can't play it until Thursday. But if you buy the PC version in a store and install it, you can play it right away. Hilarious?
Spartan_0214 18 #12 Posted November 10, 2009 I read that and lol'd. Why would you play a PC port of a console game? The controls are dumbed-down and have worse graphics than a PC game. Also, unless you put a lot of time into a port (i.e. Mass Effect, which took 6 months) the port is generally going to be of poor quality. On a final note, Modern Warfare 2 is effectively Modern Warfare with minor graphical upgrades and a new storyline. The third-person view is a little silly, as all the other COD games are First Person Shooters and there's really no reason to add it to the game. Paul Bunyan 13 #13 Posted November 10, 2009 I prefer to keep my CoD collection on the 360, so honestly, I don't really care.
