Sentient 71 3 #1 Posted November 4, 2009 I was just wondering what gives with the fake player counts. I used to love the Lotus servers but for the longest time now all I see is fake player counts all times of the day. Join when there's supposedly 30+ plays ANY time of the day and I'm greeted by an empty server. This is, quite frankly lame and annoying; and is a large part of the reason the Lotus servers have been blacklisted by the majority of the TF2 community and player base. So again, I ask? What gives? Why are you guys ruining your reputation and making people black list your servers? It makes no sense to me.
Moby 24 #2 Posted November 4, 2009 Feels like a troll post but I'll respond as if it's not. I just right click on the server and choose the option to see game info (or whatever it is... I'm not on a computer with TF2 at the moment). That way I can see the names of people playing and get a rough count. The false count thing used to bother me, but it's easy enough to get around.
kuttlewug 28 #3 Posted November 4, 2009 Who are these 'people' you speak of blacklisting the servers? And what are you talking about most of the TF2 community is doing it? Moby has a pretty easy solution.

Also you seems to present an statement that Lotus is blacklisted by most of the community but you bring no proof of this, thus making all that your say seem hollow. Also I am a constant player of US Stock 1 and 2, and some times dabbling in the other 18 servers, and I personally have never seen anything like this. Nice Mode OFF Oh please just blow your own head off with a shotgun you fricking emo, attention grabbing slut. Also we know your are already gay with that avatar, so don't try to hide it. No body loves you. Get in the coffin. Die.
Rigormortis 15 #5 Posted November 4, 2009 Eh, sometimes the servers report that their have players int hem when they really dont, just check the server info next time. If it says " The server is not responding, or something similiar, its because no one is playing. The servers are usually full and you have to wait to get in, which usually lasts til around midnight. Bombz 31 #7 Posted November 5, 2009 Why does everyone feel the need to attack the dude for making a statement? I mean really, he has an opinion about a choice that the Lotus servers and Mana have taken and he's voicing it. Since when has that become a troll post? Here, I'll do the grunt work for him... http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=993344 That thread has gotten 13,000 views. Now, that is no small number compared to the total number of active TF2 players. So it's something to really consider. Furthermore, the steam forums is not the only source for this website and I'm sure the figure is much higher. What it means is that those people utilizing these lists with peerguardian are effectively removing servers that use fake player counts from their server lists. Do you care? No, you probably don't, nor do many who actively play on Lotus. But it -is- something Mana should be aware of and atleast the guy took the time to voice his opinion instead of unnecessarily slamming someone elses.

Happiness 0 #9 Posted November 5, 2009 To be honest I do avoid servers that I remember use fake player counts. However I've never noticed it with Lotus (since the servers tend to be nearly full at the times when I join). Before I completely agree with the OP, can someone explain to me why servers do it? I have never quite understood the reasoning since if I join a server with a fake player count, I leave immediately upon finding no other players - and I presume the vast majority does too. Is it just on the off-chance that 5 or 6 people join at the same time and then the server can fill up from there?
Bombz 31 #10 Posted November 5, 2009 Yay My idle server is in that list! but my server is full 24/7 + donators... what am I going to do for a better rep! help me Mana.. help Sure, because you've made a name for yourself and have repeat users. As does LOTUS. I seriously DOUBT that Lotus or any other popular server has the risk of losing their players over this, but it is an issue when your goal is to bring in as many players as you can. People don't start servers, especially something like, 10+ with the intentions of not bringing players in.

Sentient 71 3 #12 Posted November 5, 2009 Not trying to troll, I just want to know what the big deal is. It's annoying to see a list with high population games then get in an no one's home. If all anyone can summon is hostility to a simple and honest question then I'll find myself different servers and a community to play on. Sorry guys but this stuff just isn't cool. ---------------------------------- Nice Mode OFF Oh please just blow your own head off with a shotgun you fricking emo, attention grabbing slut. Spartan_0214 18 #13 Posted November 5, 2009 You can see how many people are actually in the game by right-clicking and viewing the server information.
