Spy Traning

Anybody have tips on where I can spend some unofficial time spy training? I was able to download that walkway map for sniper, soldier and demo practice but don't know if there's another map out there I can practice playing spy on.

I'd recommend you play a real server such as lotus stocks 1 or 2. Some maps are better than others for spying, but you wont be the best until you master them all.

Just look for good places to chill if you need to regen your cloak and dagger and to uncloak without being spotted by the enemy. If you like to use the dead ringer then know all the spawn locations for metal and health.

Metal can really help out in a lot of situations with dead ringer. It can extend your cloak timer when you're running out, but what's more important is that you can drop cloak, pick up metal, and recloak almost instantly especially if you're on fire.

Other than that, make engineers and sentries a priority. I try to get behind the engi and his sentry, backstab the engi and then quickly sap the sentry before it destroys you. If time is an issue you can backstab the engi then immediately open the dead ringer and let the sentry "kill" you. Find a safe spot, disguise as engi, drop cloak, sap everything.

You should never really disguise as a heavy or a soldier unless you know what you're doing. You do NOT gain a speed boost when disguising as scout, making you obvious. I usually disguise as Demo, Sniper, or Spy; but I'll switch it up to medic, engineer, or pyro every once in a while.

When people see classes such as demo/pyro, they expect them to fire their weapons every once in a while to show that they aren't a spy in disguise. This is why I usually just pick sniper or spy, as they are usually an exception to that rule.

Heavies are pretty easy to take out, as well as any class significantly slower than spy. Just don't be an obvious spy and run right at your target, try to flank around without staring at your target. Try to appear as one of them. As a beginner, I'd recommend you steer clear of pyro's as they can cause a lot of headache with their stupid ass flamethrowers.

If you find a sniper with a razorback. get a far enough distance away from him so he can't hear you uncloak. Draw your ambassador and put one shot through his head and another anywhere in his body; they usually don't even have time to close their scope before they're dead. Free kills.

Also, if you like to play payload maps and you're defending, you can get a lot of easy backstabs if you manage to sneak up on a bunch of enemies pushing the cart. Get as many easy backstabs as possible, then cloak and run. Try to avoid unnecessary deaths.

If you kill a sniper, disguise as a sniper and take his spot for a few seconds. Find your next target and the closest metal and health kits just in case.

lol my bad, i should have been on that team with you but i was having too much fun.

np sean, i'm not the best spy, but better than most the scrubs.

next time i play spy ill make a demo. even if im sucking you'll get some of the basic things like how to drop cloak and recloak fast, when to change disguises, and some good spots to camp.

like rigormortis said some maps arent that great for spies but once you'll learn how to handle yourself in those maps you're be dominating people in no time

now if u want to be BOLD, you should try to take out medics with ubercharge ready

Well, pretty much whenever a Spy kills anyone, there will be some anger or rage. I mean, it just sucks to see clouds diminishing amongst you're body and a dude in a suit standing over your body with a knife. Not cool, not cool at all.
