Did Valve just add a mute feature after these posts were made?

Or have we all just forgotten the ability to personally mute hlss people. It wouldn't be a big deal because unlike a 4chan server, if someone is being an asshat with it, there aren't 4-5 others doing the same thing.

Mute the one dude and get on with your life. If someone is playing cool sound clips or music enjoy it. If not, mute them.

I'm in favor of bringing it back. I do feel that the community is fully capable of policing itself. While I too miss DAR's funny clips I don't feel any of it from him nor from any one else has been abusing so far, with the exception of a select few. In fact, the number of abusers from Lotus #4 has been so small that I could count them all on one hand since I started playing on that server.

From my understanding of why such a ban was placed (did I miss a post about the rational reason behind the HLSS banning?) is to keep annoying players from having one more firearm at their disposal in order to annoy other players. However, the people that truly do it to annoy others will just use the regular voice chat to spam. This was done yesterday or a day or two ago already and the player was muted very quickly.

My overall point is that such bans only hurt the players who take advantage of such features and use them for good. While the ones who use such features for evil intentions WILL find other ways and thus will not be stopped. We already have our own way of fighting back, we can vote to mute the player. We can vote to kick/ban the player. If all else fails we can request a ban here on the forums.

Just my 2 cents... see you all on the battlefield!

My experience on the server has only benefited from the HLSS ban. Unless you suggest something else, it's unlikely that the ban's gonna be lifted.

It probably won't be, I just felt I needed to give my thoughts on the subject as I needed some time to kill. Heh. Overall, it is not a game changing event and so it, personally, doesn't bother me if it is there or not.

Just as I pointed out in my previous post, this ban will not fully stop the people that do mic spamming to annoy others. The same applies to the people that do it in a non-annoying way. Just may be a bit more difficult to get the same results as having HLSS.

So Mana have you read this yet? Melissia's tough act is getting old - I didn't start this thread to troll the members. I would like to know from you about why you disabled HLSS when people (at least the L4 regs) are more than capable of taking care of themselves. If the intent was to excise annoying people (which is good and all), why is it that players that are annoying in general can still roam free? bbs is a perfect example. No one in Lotus 4 likes playing with him. The regs' "micspam" is more accepted than douche players.

If you know what you are doing, you can make it so the in game mute menu can not mute you. If there was a sure way for everyone to personally mute someone then perhaps it would have stayed as "5 seconds and you're muted".

OK thanks. I wasn't sure if you got around to reading it since it has been up for some time. bbs is just a general asshat and I am not just saying that b/c he hates me. He constantly whines when his team is losing, he brags and talks trash incessantly, and is essentially a cocky douche that most L4 people don't like to play with. Yeah, I know most servers have the "village idiot," and that is why I haven't and won't submit anything in the ban request forum just b/c he is a dick. It isn't uncommon for him to be kicked quickly by the regs, and if he doesn't learn his lesson, we usually kick him until he does or ban him. I haven't seen him in some time, and I'll give him credit, he is a fast learner: usually one or two kicks is enough to shut him up. I just mentioned him as an example of someone who is annoying without HLSS.

At the time of my original post, I didn't take into account the fact that people can get around the muteblock thing. However, I haven't seen anything like that happen in L4. The only time we were not able to votemute someone was back when the whole voting thing was broken a couple of months or so ago. Again, I haven't seen anyone else get around it, but I suppose you wouldn't have disabled HLSS if it wasn't a problem in the other servers. Perhaps there could be a way where the regs of their respective servers decide if their server can have HLSS? After all, you had it enabled in L4 while other servers didn't have HLSS, and as far as I know most people didn't mind it.

Every once in awhile the server just needs abit more cowbell........in the forum of some Hlss craziness. I do so miss the sweet sounds of Duke_Nukem'. So little is free these days except for laughs.

Dont count on any addons being allowed on Lotus servers, people find ways to abuse any possible client side crap so mana just has everything shut off. Hell you cant even see sprays or bullet holes made by other players.
