Paul Bunyan 13 #2 Posted April 12, 2010 Record a demo of your gameplay by typing "record insertnamehere" in to console. Play the demo by typing "play insertnamehere" in to console. Record the demo with Fraps, you can find it free all over the internet, or if you don't like that stuff buy it for 37 dollars not that expensive. There are other options, but I personally prefer Fraps over everything else I've tried. The demo part is optional, it just makes it so that you can play normally, and when something cool happens you can access the demo later and record that. It helps with lag too, since you aren't recording the whole game. After all your crap is recorded, it's simple editing and you're done.

a_puma01 7 #4 Posted April 12, 2010 Ok is that avatar you or some actor? I swear Iv seen that face. Thats a picture of me, my room mate bought these HUGE banana's and i had a laugh over them, took some pictures =P Record a demo of your gameplay by typing "record insertnamehere" in to console. Well i know how to record demo's the problem is, when i am Playing myself, and i try to record a demo of myself While i'm playing.. it gives me some serious latency. My frames are still 150-200ish, my ping doesnt change, yet everything is about 1 second behind my actual imput on the keyboard or mouse movements and it becomes unplayable. I dont know why it does this, but i've always experienced this when playing TF2. I will be sure to check out Fraps, is Fraps strictly a recording program or is it editing as well? If its not editing, any suggestions on what to use to edit a video? Thanks for all the advice pal!
Paul Bunyan 13 #5 Posted April 12, 2010 You can capture video and screenshots with Fraps. It will also give you an overlay of your FPS if you want. For editing, again with the borrowing things from the internet. Sony Vegas 9 Pro (or Platinum, no huge difference to me) is a very nice piece of software. Adobe Premiere is also something to check out, I use both occasionally and I like them just about equally. Adobe After Effects is also very nice, use it along with Premiere or Vegas, it's just for effects and stuff. I personally don't use it much unless I'm planning on making something look extremely good, and putting a lot of time in to it, but it does just that. You'll look professional with simple editing. everything is about 1 second behind my actual imput on the keyboard or mouse movements and it becomes unplayable I have no idea what's going on here, you might want to just record as you play depending on what you're doing in that case. It will lower your FPS maybe 10 usually? Never really compared.
FunkyFresh 68 #6 Posted April 13, 2010 Gotta have a powerful enough computer to run FRAPs AND your game without experiencing any performance hits. Either that or set FRAPs to record your videos at halfsize/halffps.. Unless you're needing a recorder for source games, then you outta just record the demos with fraps. phantom 29 #7 Posted April 13, 2010 if youre having stuttering issues with recording a demo try defragging your shit also it sometimes desyncs but if you just jump around for a second it syncs back up
Paul Bunyan 13 #8 Posted April 13, 2010 I ran it fine on a shitty rig, he says his is a monster so I figured it would be fine. Right now I'm running a shitty rig too, and Fraps is always running with no problem. It's only a problem when I record (obviously), which drops me down from 20 FPS to about 10. FunkyFresh 68 #9 Posted April 13, 2010 Well..yeah.. running it will cause no problems, lmao. It's recording.
a_puma01 7 #10 Posted April 13, 2010 if youre having stuttering issues with recording a demo try defragging your shit also it sometimes desyncs but if you just jump around for a second it syncs back up i have just defragged all 4 of my Hd's but mainly the one Steam runs off of about 2 days ago with Disc Keeper. So that wouldnt be an issue, i'm not sure why i have this issue. WHen i am recording a demo of someone else playing its fine but anytime i try to record my badassery, i get a one second latency from the time i move my mouse or input keyboard commands till it actually does it in the game. I wouldnt be able to kill very many people with a 1 second latency like that, not sure what causes it. Here is a picture of my custom build minus the extra hds now in there
