Full Signature Tutorial

Recommended Posts

alright so most of you guys don't know how to make one well.. i thought i would teach you guys some tricks:D btw.. this tut was from another forum i'm on, called NerdcoreGFX.Register there if you would like ;)

In this tuturial, you will learn how to make cool grunge sigs that are great for forums.

1. First off, start with your fav signature dimension, i'll use 400x150 and with transparent background.

2. Press D to reset your colour to black and white and go to Filter>Render>clouds. If you don't like the outcome, like if one part is too much black and one part is too much white, you could always press CTRL+F until you get what you desire.

3. Make a new layer and get your grunge brushes and start brushing. Make Layers of black and Layers of white.

Note: If you don't have brushes you could get them at deviantART.

4. Tip: Play with the blending mode of some brush layers like using Overlay, Darken, Lighten, Screen, Hard light, Soft light. This will make some nice effect for the brushes. You could also play with the opacity if you want.

You should have something like this when you're done.

5. Now select the top brush layer and go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Levels and press ok.

6. Play around with the black, grey white sliders until you get a good 3d-like texture.

7. Then go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Curves. Play around with the sliders just like what you did on Levels.

8. Get your render and paste it on top of all the layers. Go to Layers>Smart Objects>Group into Smart Objects. Scale it to the right size you want and place it where ever you like. You should have something like this by now.

9. Go to the toolbox and select the Single Column Marquee Tool.

10. Go the the Render layer and then make a selection of the render(Make sure you select the parts that has lots of colours).

11. Press Ctrl+C to copy it. Deselect the selection by pressing Ctrl+D.

12.Make a new layer and paste it. Then go to Edit>Transform>Scale and drag it horizontal to stretch out the colours. This method is called "Pixel Stretch", as you can see it stretches colours. Now go to blending options and select Overlay. Put that layer under the render and you should have something like this.

12. Looking good eh? Now you can put some text+border.

13. Save it as a PSD. Then go to Layers>Flatten image. Duplicate the layer and select the top layer. Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and set the Radius to 3.5px and press ok. Now set the Blending option to one of these settings: Overlay, Darken, Lighten, Soft Light, Hard light. I prefer using Overlay but those other settings are good too.

Overlay:

And that's the End of this tut, hope you like it. If you have any questions or you want to show off what you got, post them here.

umm...yea, the main attraction was an image already produced, you just fixed up the background. Thats not making a signature from scratch; I do it the easy way; I google for images. :D

You can not really do a sig from "scratch" if your thinking about it that way. Thats tsill alot to do and some of the best sigs look like that.

Ok.

his explanation was confusing so this is what I did.

The tool box on the right side contains a thing called the rectangle marquee tool. Right click on it and 4 marquee options will come out.

Rectangle

Single Row

Single Column

Elliptical

Pick the single column tool and click on your image where there is a variety of colors in the same column. It should make a dashed line running from top to bottom. Then you copy the line with ctrl+c and then make a new layer. Then you paste the line with ctrl+v. Don't worry if it doesn't show. Then go to Edit, Transform, and Scale. Then the line will appear again. You just have to stretch the line left and right. Then switch the layers. The image one should come up on top and the design should be on the back. If you cannot switch the layers then just post your image again by making a new layer. :P
