Unban Request: Roland (Aka [5¹] Roland )

Recommended Posts

PLEASE COMPLETELY IGNORE THE CONTENT OF THE PREVIOUS UNBAN REQUEST THAT WAS MADE FOR ME AS IT WAS VERY RUDE AND CONDESCENDING, IT WAS MADE BY A FLUSTERED FRIEND OF MINE AFTER I TOLD HIM THAT I HAD BEEN BANNED. PLEASE TRY NOT TO LET THE PREVIOUS UNBAN REQUEST COLOR YOUR PERCEPTION OF THIS POST.

TL;DR (decided to put the TL;DR at the top for the convenience of those reading)

I was not hacking and currently do not hack. I feel that the time I have put into getting better at this game grants me some license in having what may be considered well-developed aim. The inconsistencies in aim that my accuser observed were due to my imperfection. Please unban me; I love the Lotus servers, especially Texas Badwater.

Appeal Starts Here

Hey everybody, roland here. I’d like to make a serious and heartfelt unban request in the following body.

A few weeks ago Genny Justice, a regular on the Texas Badwater server, made a ban request for a player known as [5¹] roland (me) for aimbotting on the basis that this player’s aim as sniper was “seizure-like,” inconsistently good (possibly implying a toggle aimbot, I suppose), and seemingly overtly “snap-oriented.”

Before I address any specific points that were used as evidence for my alleged hacking, I want to inform everyone reading this that I have never hacked in any game, currently do not hack, and plan to never hack (as long as I maintain fair competition as a core value of mine). I realize that the readers of this post have currently little reason to trust that, but I felt it was necessary to say anyway.

First, I consider my aim to be at least somewhat refined. I have spent the better part of the past three years of my life improving my aim and overall play in TF2 (judge away if you feel it necessary). I have logged roughly 4500 hours of real play time into TF2 since August 2008. I have spent at least 400 hours on the Scout class and 800 hours on the Soldier class specifically training my aim in competitive 6v6 practice and league matches as well as deathmatch mods such as ammomod, mge mod, and SOAP deathmatch. Additionally, I have at least 200 hours of real play time on the Sniper class where I honed my skills while having fun in pub servers.

One might ask how I can imply that my Sniper aim is as developed as my scout and soldier aim which I seem to tout. To this I say: since muscle control and muscle memory (seeing the same shot over and over and then memorizing how you need to move your arm/hand to hit that shot) are the foundations of aim, any improvements that one gains from training these skills will be applicable to all types of aim, including that of the sniper rifle (or literally any other weapon). This is often why one may see a comp TF2 player that has proficiency with classes other than his/her main.

The point of the above was to provide a case for myself (and hopefully other unrightfully accused players) that it is conceivable for a player to have such developed aim. Here is a link to my TF2 stats page as proof that I have the playtime that I say I do http://steamcommunit...and_-/stats/TF2 . While I'm at it, here is the link to my Steam profile page to show that I have no VAC bans on record, if that means anything to those reading http://steamcommunity.com/id/roland_- .

Now I would like to address some of the specific things that led the accuser to believing that I was using an aimbot.

I am not exactly sure what was meant by “seizure-like,” but my best guess is that my accuser was either referring to my somewhat twitchy aiming style or my constant scanning of surroundings. My aiming style involves a lot of twitching or “flicking.” I aim in such a way because I cannot consistently “track” my opponents with high precision. I frequently flick to my flanks and to my rear to heighten my knowledge of my surroundings and to better prepare myself for attacks from spies and flanking scouts.

It was stated that sometimes I “absolutely sucked and other times… would never miss.” This, to me, suggests that the accuser took this fact as evidence for me using a “toggle” aimbot, one that may readily be turned on and off. First, my inconsistency is due to the fact that I am not perfect and, in fact, miss more than occasionally. When I miss, I am discouraged and am less likely to hit the next shots because I may, for example, tense up and put too much energy into a specific shot and overcompensate. This sort of thing may result in long miss streaks. Miss streaks may also be caused by me being tired, and as a result having a longer reaction time. Conversely, when I hit shots I feel good about my aim and I gain focus, causing me to string a bunch of headshots together back to back. Additionally, one should note that many of my headshot streaks occur while firing upon enemies packed together in choke points (who are easier to hit due to their restricted movement) such as those at the second and third points of Badwater (the alley and corner respectively).

The “snapping” that may be observed when I aim I have already addressed. The most reliable aiming style that I have developed is “flick” aim and was achieved simply by lots of practice and the building of muscle memory and control.

Finally, I want to say why I am making this unban request and also why I waited so long to write it. I want to be unbanned because I really like the Lotus 24/7 Badwter server; I almost always have fun while playing there. The players are generally benevolent and pro-teamwork and the server is usually well-populated. The only less-than-fun moments that I have on that server are brought on by myself either because I’m in a bad mood or stressed or whatever. I have taken several weeks to post this because I thought I would be able to get along enjoyably in my TF2 pub experience without the Lotus Badwater server but I was, however, wrong. The fact is, good Badwater servers are few and far between, and it’s really frustrating and sad to me that I have been banned from one of the best of them. I hope that if nothing else, the effort that I have put into this unban request serves as evidence of my innocence on the charge of aimbotting. Indeed, if you read this entire post, thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

roland

p.s. Please do not take any of the content of this post as elitist or egotistical; I have tried my very best to not appear in such a way (in this post and in-game) and do not intend at all to flaunt any sort of skill intentionally (it’s just not in my character).

I've been playing with roland for 2 years. I can vouch for his skills and his positive attitude. He is a legit player and good person, and he will be a great part of the lotus community if you allow him.

You're already playing on the server on an alternate account, so why are you drawing attention to yourself? It took all of five minutes before people started complaining to me about you.

Yes it is a fact that I have been playing on the server on an alternate account (alias: WinterIsComing). Now that that truth is well-known (if it wasn't already), I'd like to point out that unbanning my main account would be a great convenience for me. Currently, I have to repeatedly log between accounts to correspond with my friends on my main account and play on my favorite server on my alt. account (which is of course a bit tiresome, considering the time it takes to log into steam). Additionally, my main account has all of my favorite hats (heh) and more of the unlocks that I like to use. Again, I would like to say that I do NOT hack and that I am peacefully requesting an unban of my main account. Thus, I am drawing attention to myself to get my main account unbanned for the mentioned reasons.

In the OP I described why I may seem of higher-than-average skill in length. An analogy for what it's like when I play in a pub server like Texas Badwater is a sprinter that has been training with 15 pound weights on each ankle suddenly removing the weights and going for a run. Not to sound like a broken record, but I have indeed honed my skills and especially so with highly skilled players; when I join a pub server, I remove my "ankle weights" and appear to be highly skilled. Lastly, to repeat myself again, I do not say any of this to self-praise or to be condescending: those are the last things on my to-do list; I say these things to clarify that I have at least somewhat developed aiming skills and indeed do not hack.

Now knowing that multiple people have complained about my play, I would like to formally apologize to those whom I have robbed a fun gaming experience (I'm being serious). So with that, I am sorry.

Roland cares about his reputation as a player as anyone else would that spent so much time on the game. How would you like it if you were accused of cheating after spending countless hours trying to improve?

Also, in my opinion, this deserves someone's attention, because of the way he was banned. I feel like he didn't get a fair shake. I shouldn't even have to say this, but in all conventional logic there is no way you can prove someone is hacking from a 3rd person demo.

In your reply to the first unban request, you wrote, "Sometimes he absolutely sucked and other times he would never miss." Sniping is a very rhythmic thing, and consistency with sniper is much more difficult than lets say soldier or heavy. Simply because it is easier to hit with the rocket launcher and minigun. If you're taking a lot of spam or getting backstabbed every time you scope up. Its very difficult to get in that rhythm you need for that consistency. As you watched Roland play as soldier tonight. You probably noticed he was always on form, because of these reasons.

I've been accused of cheating numerous times and even had ban requests on this very forum. None have ever gone through because the Lotus admins are very thorough. As far as my reputation is concerned, I don't really care about the reputation of "Genny Justice" as it's a video game and I haven't been sixteen years old in a very long time. I've never bothered to even respond to a ban request of my own; why would I waste the time when there's nothing to defend myself against?

Hypothetically speaking, if I were banned, I'd simply move on. I wouldn't make long-winded arguments that my snap headshots are due to years of kung fu training with Bruce Lee. The only thing tying me to these servers are the people I play with. Starting fresh, there's better badwater servers around. You guys take this stuff too seriously.

Clearly I have wasted my breath in this discussion. I don't care about your opinion on what fun means to me. At this point I would just like an admin to post in this thread (or pm me) and say definitively whether I will be unbanned or not. If no, then you'll swiftly never hear from me again on any of my accounts (alt./main/whatever).
