Pings And Lag

Hey guys,

There are A LOT of people who play in the West Coast Beta servers that either are from overseas or otherwise have really high pings. Most times, there are players in there that are in the neighborhood of 200-300... but at times there are players with 600-800 pings. In most of these cases, they are people that warp around really bad or just lag to the point where you you can't hit them while they are moving around. There are also times where they peek a corner and you are waiting for them and yet, they peek and kill you without even being able to see them. For the people who actually LIVE in the States, or on the west coast, this doesn't make a very good gaming experience because, like right now in the server (1:15am Pacific time in the Dust2 server), all of the 200+ pingers have all stacked on one side and are just lag-killing all the lesser pingers on the other side. The playing field isn't even at all. We already have a hard time keeping teams even... this just makes it 10 times worse.

My question is, have you guys considered putting a ping limit on the server? Say, 125 or maybe even 150? Most players I see in there in that range don't tend to lag or it isn't as noticeable as the ones that are 200+. Is this a discussion that has taken place already? If so, what were the factors in the decision to not put a ping limit on the server (if you are able to say)?

It's the CS:S beta. It doesn't have too many servers and it's point is to test things (when Valve gets around to adding them).

It would be unfair to start kicking people that are trying to help beta test this game.

Also, according to Valve the Source engine is optimized for upto 300 ms ping.

Agreed as you would know i usually range around the 200-300 ping because i live over seas im ranked near the 130's and i am sorry but i have played on west coast for nearly two years i think and i have a lot of good friends on west coast if a ping limit got started i would most likely stop playing CSS all together

and btw, majority in the beta dust have 200+ pings. so if you limit your 150, then there will be not much players in beta dust. you complain cuz of warping? or you cant just have a kill thats why you complain for those who have 200+pings.my advice to you is simple. go to other servers and play there and dont go back at beta dust. okay?

Its a Beta, Mana's making a good point and there won't be any ping filters, its insane to do so on a game still in the works.

You should complain to Valve, for the Source Engine's weaknesses.

Kingpin you need to shut up. All you do is try ban people and you abuse people thats why you always get vote banned and if you keep going it wont surprise me if you get a perma ban for abusing. personally I would like to see him get a perma he deservers it.

Normally when ppl have abnormally high ping, we do kick or ban.. i have never seen any high pinger consistencly allowed to play..

You should consider looking for help buddy, of the psychiatric type.

Its obvious there's some problem that's between players....and probably doesn't require server administration.
