BlueDuck 0 #1 Posted February 29, 2012 I was in your Chicago TF2 server tonight and im not sure if this person is a member or not, i looked for his name here on your webpage but couldn't find it, anyway he goes be the name "slingo" and i was gone for less than 30 seconds and he put up a vot kick on me, when i returned and saw that on my screen i typed in "hay, im here im back" but the vote already went through. I quickly got back into the game and got back on the red side and i asked who had put up the Kick against me, and slingo spoke up and said he did, i asked why, i was only gone for less than 30 seconds, and he replied "ya you were go for less than 30 seconds so what". i told im he shouldent use his admin powers in such a stricked way and he said "oh well". I am a 43 year old adult who does not cause any problems in anyone's servers, in fact i used to belong to a very good gaming clan called TWB ( The Wild Bunch) and i was an admin for close to 4 years with them and i never used my admin duties to wrong anyone or kick just for spite. I would very much like someone in your caln to look into this and please talk to Slingo about what he is doing. In the future i am planning on contributing to your servers but am currently out of work, when i do find another job i will of course help out your servers but i really hope i dont have this happen again to myself. Thank You Douglas (BlueDuck) Chase
Harlequin 2,975 #2 Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) Hello BlueDuck. I want to add that I myself initiate votekicks on people who are obviously afk.not Continiously but if i notice after a few respawns there are always around 3-4 ppl in the spawn just etand and doing nothin then I go for an afk votekick. This is just to serve my team, to even the teams. The thing is i do not sit there with a note and a clock and observe who is away for how long. In this situation you cant tell who is afk for5 minutes or just 30 seconds. You should not take this as an attack on your person. Seems you just had a bad timing. Happened to myself alot regards ps sorry for the bad spelling, cant hit the letters right on this mobile... Should I adjust my sensitivity and get a zoom script? Barbaro 466 #3 Posted February 29, 2012 Before looking for AFKs, I think perhaps having a limit on how long they are actually gone. Maybe no more than lets say, 3 - 5 Minutes? I almost initatied a Vote-Kick on a guy who was AFK for around 4 then popped back in. I go AFK a minute or two to grab some water or snacks. Kick me and I'll burn the server. Try me. XD Person who goes AFK for a few minutes during setup/right at the start of the round = give them some time to come back. Person who goes AFK for a few minutes during last point defence = votekicked for deserting the team. I give people a couple of minutes and look for them when I respawn. If you have to leave for 5 minutes, go spec - that way your slot is freed up. Edited February 29, 2012 by Cactus
Barbaro 466 #6 Posted February 29, 2012 I'd be careful with comments like that. While you mean it jokingly there ARE people who get mad at things like getting kicked and they DO attack the servers. You copied my last sentence. What's the point? If it was serious in servers being attacked, I know the who/what/when/where/why. Everyone probably does. Edit: Furthermore, you think I'm that dumb to cause such nonsense? On the servers I spend half my gaming life on? How rude! Person who goes AFK for a few minutes during setup/right at the start of the round = give them some time to come back. If you have to leave for 5 minutes, go spec - that way your slot is freed up. Yeah, I don't start the votekicks and crying until its noticeable. Sometimes people may end up going AFK for longer than 5 minutes.Problem is, if your team's doing really well, you may not notice that a member or two is AFK. That's where it gets really interesting. Regardless, I blame the AFK kicker, not the community members, L's, or Server Admins. Dat AFK Kicker isn't getting aggressive when server's 24/24. Barbaro 466 #8 Posted February 29, 2012 It was just a friendly notice... Not sure why you are getting upset... Pro. Relax. This is coming from a Regular on the servers, not directed at anyone in particular. I can feel upset as I'd like about the situation during peak times on the servers I frequent here in Central, aka, Texas. Mainly because nothing is done, people post but are never followed up. In my previous clan-activities, I'd make sure that problems were attended to and handled. Guess I believe I should expect the same in return. Then again, this is TF2. Kerberos 3,170 #9 Posted February 29, 2012 Tbh I'd say you have to be a regular on a particular server to even think of initiating any form of AFK kick. I know most of the regulars on my server that I admin, I know I could trust them if I asked them how long "Bob123" was AFK for, and if they were AFK for 10 minutes I'd kick them immediately. I would not kick anyone for being AFK without anyone else mentioning, complaining or vouching that they were AFK, because they maybe trading in which case they are not AFK, just busy on the server. But I have also known people to just sit there moving the mouse occasionally to keep on the server but AFK... what is the point? No idea... But when I asked him why he was not playing, he said along the lines of "Waiting for my friend to play", and as a casual reply I said "how long will that be you think" to which the reply was like 30 minutes. All I'm saying is be careful when you kick people, you get some whiney bitches who will complain, and you have no evidence to back it up...
BlueDuck 0 #10 Posted February 29, 2012 Thanks for all the feedback, i play on the Chicago server just about 97% of the time and people are getting to know me pretty well. Being gone for less than a minuet should not be cause for a vote kick, it was not at the beginning of the game or during a win for our side, nothing really was going on when i got up to go get some ice for my drink so i figured now would be a good time to do it. maybe Slingo was having a bad day or something happened with his family i really dont know, all i do know is that if these people know me even a little bit they know i never get up and leave the game for very long and yes, if i did i would go on spectate and come back in when it's available. I will of course keep an eye out for slingo and if he continues to do this to me or others i will post again, thanks to all.
+Cactus 4,948 #11 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) The great thing about votekick is that people can rejoin immediately. If you go AFK for a few minutes and get kicked, no harm no foul, just rejoin when you're back. Do we have an AFK kicker plugin on the servers? Would be great to have one set to 5 minutes to remove the need for the number of AFK votekicks I see/have to initiate.
