Implement A Crit Vote On Arena Servers

One vote at the start of each map for player to decide if they want crits or not. To be honest I think arena would be better off without crits but that is not for me to judge. There are those who like the elements of chance that crits bring to arena matches. At the same time, there is a considerable majority that are annoyed by the idea that the outcome of a match can be decided entirely by a five second crit buff given to the first killer in a round. I mean, why not?

I agree. Random crits might work in regular servers but in arena mode where there is no respawn they are much more punishing and are more likely to decide the outcome of the game. As for first blood, the reason why it should be off is because it is activated by dead ringer spies.

Indeed there were 2 Arena servers. One with crits and one without.

The one without crits died.

And simply being on an Arena map disqualifies the server completely from the Start Playing button. So this is not the reason.

Also it's a no to crits not just because the no crit arena failed (that's reason alone not to do it again) but also because this server has been with crits for years.

It's far too old for such a drastic change that unbalances the game so severely. Especially if damage range (ramp up) is disabled as it usually is with no crits.

Classes such as the scout can lose upto 75% of their damage:

Furthermore some weapons' only downsides are "no crits".

Sorry just noticed this. I'm not asking for a no crit server. I'm asking that players are given the choice to decide rather than having it decided for them. I really don't see where you can go wrong with a system like that.

The no crit downside is a valid point but in all fairness arena isn't very well balanced to begin with. There are weapons that clearly don't belong anywhere in arena, that serve as direct upgrades over others. From the time of the polycount update arena has been increasingly regarded as being the joke of TF2 game types. That's another discussion in itself however.

The no crit downside is a valid point but in all fairness arena isn't very well balanced to begin with. There are weapons that clearly don't belong anywhere in arena, that serve as direct upgrades over others. From the time of the polycount update arena has been increasingly regarded as being the joke of TF2 game types. That's another discussion in itself however.

The downside is the first few people to connect get to decide.

Maps like Nucleus that go on for hours would be locked from the start.

Also the Eureka wrench needs to get arena banned. Seriously. Not close to fair.

Pretty much, look at it this way, Random Crits are just that, Random. First Blood is reserved for true killers or those with good timing and luck. If you can't deal with it, then hang back once the person with the buff DIES.

Simple. Duh.

First Blood is reserved for true killers or those with good timing and luck. If you can't deal with it, then hang back once the person with the buff DIES.

It only lasts 5 seconds.

Two scout achievements require this as well.

this point is extremely irrelevant to this point of asking for a current server to not have crits in it. no one asked for another server with no crits people want no crits on the current arena server having a 2nd with no crits doesnt me a thing to anyone. was this other server announced across all lotus arena server were people aware? another very poor crutch you people keep leaning towards is It's far too old for such a drastic change that unbalances the game so severely. Especially if damage range (ramp up) is disabled as it usually is with no crits. guess no one here has played a UGC game? there arent crits there but weapons that have this no crit downside are still used along with no random crits. if you lotus want to argue that no crits doesnt work can you come up with actual reasons rather than shitty speculations that you clearly already know

What the fuck does that mean? So no crits killed one Arena server (and our only no-crit stock maps server too died because of it). Let's just take what was unpopular and do THE SAME EXACT thing to the remaining Arena server?

I'd rather put up a second Arena server with no crits since it would probably be empty anyway as no one would bother playing on it. Being empty means it would use minimal resources so no need to upgrade ram. But I'd like to be proven wrong. I could even put up a message on all Lotus server advertising it. That should make it even easier to prove me wrong.

I hate crits just as much as I hate no crits. One is stupid for even being in the game. The other is stupid because Valve didn't balance the game for it at all.

Though you can adapt to crits(big blue glowing rocket), you can't adapt to random damage (damage ramp up, damage spread, whatever you wanna call it)

Why is it that people from our ONLY remaining no crit/no damage spread server complain to me about the scout being underpowered? Something about the scatergun not being able to do it's max damage.

That will not disable first blood crits. Only random crits.

Yes. And because of how our chat message system works it was announced on ALL Lotus servers. Practically the only server to ever have it's IP listed on our other servers (ignoring the CSS beta server advertising DUST2).

I still don't understand why nocrits and no damage spread are supposed to go hand in hand. Are crits there to compensate for the random damage? Also from what I read, spread only accounts for 15 percent additional or less damage on a weapon. I don't know how scout would lose 75 percent of his damage from that.

Because it's not 15%.

"tf_damage_range" = "0.50"

The .5 probably means 25%+ to 25%- damage change. Because when set to some absurd value you have a chance of healing someone when you shot or instakilling them. So it has to go both ways.
