Sphagnum Peat Moss 748 #1 Posted June 8, 2012 I'm in school for game programming, but we're in an artsy fartsy class right now where we have to make 3D models and scenes with Maya. I loathe artistic crap because I suck at it. I wanted to practice by making TF2 characters. Pyro is such a beautiful and sexy creature, so I want to make him first, but I'm having a bit of a programmer->artist learning curve with getting him to look right. Anyone out there with some leet Maya skillz can help me out?

Sphagnum Peat Moss 748 #3 Posted June 17, 2012 How about experience with UDK? Or importing static meshes from Maya in UDK? We've just written exporter plugins for Maya to convert to a format for our own model viewer, but while building my level in UDK, I'm getting a stronger desire to make my own meshes in Maya and export them to UDK. But I'm totally brand new with UDK and haven't quite figured out all its tools and features yet.

If you're still working in Maya, you may want to review some of the videos Masayiro Ushiyama put up.Do As Infinity used his work for one of their videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqZaA0vWFg0
Sphagnum Peat Moss 748 #7 Posted June 30, 2012 Thanks for the links. We're done with Maya for our purposes as programmers (we mostly wrote plugins for it and just needed enough knowledge about it to know what our plugins were doing), but I'm still looking to learn more advanced stuff that we didn't cover so I can make some sexy pyro things. For my final assignment I just ended up making KOTH maps in UDK. Got TF2 on the brain.
