Justice 0 #1 Posted October 1, 2006 Where are you from? And if you feel like it, then tell us a bit about your country and how you think of it. Even if you live in England or America we, or at least I, still want to hear how you think about your country... and perhaps take some pictures you like too I'll start about my "country" F?royar or the Faroe Islands. We are located here: and the islands are placed in this daggerish way: We are a small country, don't say anything else to a Faroese with risk for your life , belonging to the Danish Kingdom. We are 50.000 people and are thus no bigger than an average small city. Still most Faroese dream of that one day we'll be free from the Danish Kingdom and 1/4 of us want to take our freedom now right away. We do however have some problems in that option. The most important, in mine eyes, is that The Danish government is one of the very few countries that ignores the declaration which states that countries with sub - counries are to help them in gaining freedom and, even if the sub - country doesn't want to, make it ready for embracing the world. This the Danish government has never done, but rather ignored when we voted for freedom (51 - 49) in 1946 and when we had the freedom government in 1998 - 2004, I think, they weren't exactly helpfull. This brings us on to the faroese mentality. During that time the freedom parties agreed since the danes fought against our demands as much as they could without breaking the law to openly. But then suddenly Fogh came to power and he said we could do what we wanted and just had to ask, but still wouldn't actually help us much more than the old Rasmussen, so then all the parties started to fight a lot more about what to do, rather than just doing it... and that is pretty much how we Faroese are. Go against us faroese, threaten us, mock us or attack us and you'l be sure we, almost, stand as one nation. Be helpfull and play you want to help us and then we fight each other and nothing happens. We are probably most known for our football team and for the fact that we hunt and eat grindahval (forgott the name of that whale). Other local delicities are half rotten sheep meat called skerpikj?t, a lot of seabirds, blomm?r (a bit like haggish), baked seabirds and some other kinds of bread. We don't only have strange political systems or colonial powers here. THere are too things like musik. In the summer time we have several festivals and it aren't only danish and faroese celecbrities here. We too have had people like shakin STevens, Brian Addams and sissel kirkeb? here, and a lot of other celebrities I've long since forgotten the name of but it seems like more and more real celebreties come each year, and that those who have been here mostly wish to come back. Else we don't have so many fameous Faroese singers. We perhaps have TEtur Lassen, or how he is called, said to be pretty fameous in the US and has a lot of immitators allready , T?r is on the way... hope they make it and then perhaps the northerners have heard of Eiv?r P?llsd?ttur.- THe Danish musik minds are at least starting to fall for her. We have lots and lots of sheep and mot of us know how to butcher one... ok in these days perhaps only half of us. The most important industry is fishing and fish export, but they are, like allways, dreaming of new industries here... Now i'll take a few picures and then hope someone else will post a bit of info about his/her country... not necessarily long. Just a bit and we allways love pictures. Well a few more things about the Faroes and then I'll just answer questions and ask questions. Flag: Records: It is said we have the oldest "parliament" still in function, as in still using the same building, and it is pretty close to being the oldest "parliament" too, it is called Tinganes and looks like this: My father used to work there. Taking over the curch now though.- Right now Denmark owns the Faroese curch. And that white hous is were the politicans are yelling at each other all day And this is unfortunatly the closest I get to Enniberg.- Europes highest cliff going wright to the ocean... - Correct me if I mixed the cliffs up Secret :typing: What else do we have... Did you know that Lindberg, the first one to fly acroos the Atlantic landed in the Faroes to get extra gas on his way to England... or was it home? There are strangely few people who know that :vhap: hmmm... a bit more here: A little known fact about F?royar: On the 12th September 1990 they defeated Austria in a soccer match 1:0. That's very surprising since it was the F?royar islands first non-friendly soccer match ever. It inaugurated them on the map of European soccer and even led to the building of the Toftir stadium for home-games. In Austria it's called the defeat of a century and it is still rumored that every member of the National tem get a apckage of smoked salmon for new-years each year by the F?royarian tourist office. And the team chief each month. This is the seccond most unexpected football outcome ever Ok... Now i''l end soon, just this one more for those who like what they have seen Here are some othe pics of the Faroes just found them, but I must warn you that it is not allowed to put thes pics up on any web page to gain money in any way, or to post them without the name of the one who took the pic.- Unless it is for school work, then it is allowed. Here are some extreemly pretty pics, and the names of those who took them are under them http://www.skulin.fo/myndasavn/ Bl?mur= flowers Bygningar= buildings F?lk= people t?kni= science Bygdir= villages D?r= animals N?tt?ra= nature, what I reccomed Vinna= business

WhereMyArm 0 #5 Posted October 2, 2006 That's awesome, the Faroe Islands look gorgeous. We actually had an exchange student come to our school from there once. I didn't really get to know him, but I remembered that he looked like a punk rocker kinda guy, but said that his ambition was to be the captain of a boat. That kinda stuff leads me to believe my stereotypes don't work very well outside of America. ;p Anyway, thanks for all the cool pictures, I'll have to visit there sometime if I'm ever in the Euro area. I'll post some pictures later letting you know how boring where I'm from is.

Sars! Desgraciadamente, Trikz no tuvo mucho ?xito. Y esperaron, esperaron y esperaron... Please translate this ps: This is total spam!
