werty 0 #1 Posted November 30, 2014 Playing on a surf server, getting to the end like you're supposed to, killing people in jail like you're supposed to. Votebanned for hacking. I don't even care if I get unbanned, as I don't intend to play on your servers anymore, but you might consider raising the amount of votes needed to initiate a ban. 3 votes on a server with ~20 people seems a little low (protip: even if you make a server-wide vote after that, nobody ever reads those and everyone always presses 1). Also only allowing people on your own team to votekick / voteban might be a good idea especially when your userbase consists of kiddies who voteban anyone dominating them. +Skaila 5,462 #3 Posted November 30, 2014 As Se7en pointed out: it's a voteban, and votebans expire after 30 minutes. If you feel you're being unjustly targeted by players, you can always grab a demo. Also provide your own Steam ID, makes it easier for us to check our database. Another way to deal with this is when the voteban starts, you can type !calladmin. Usually one of the admins will come and see what happens. Regardless, I think 3 people to initiate a voteban is just the right amount. For the record: I checked our database and didn't see any ban logged. So you should be able to reconnect
fever 9,884 #4 Posted November 30, 2014 Also when you grab a demo, the first thing you should do is open your console and type "status" (without the quotes). then we have the ID's of all people on the server.
Sphagnum Peat Moss 748 #5 Posted December 2, 2014 This is a problem as old as gaming itself. If we knock it from 4 to 3, people complain it's too easy to abuse the voting system, and if we bump it from 3 to 4, people complain it's too hard to use it effectively to remove troublemakers. The bottom line is that there are shitty people who make it suck either way. Which way we design the voting system is based on what type of shitty is more prevalent: vote abusers or hackers. In my experience, hackers are more both more prevalent and take more time to prove. Vote abuse is proven easily through pretty much any type of logging (chats, server logs, demos, screenshots, etc.). I'd rather have it easier for players to remove hackers and have the occasional asshat who abuses voting, which only affects one person at a time and which I can easily identify and ban, than make it difficult for players to vote off a hacker, which affects everyone on the server and who would otherwise require a lot more investigation for me to ban. Surely you can understand our position on this. Lastly, as mentioned in the servers over and over, if there is a problem, you can always !calladmin and/or record a demo and post it here if no admin is immediately available.
