There are 2 main methods that can be used and accepted as sufficient evidence for ban requests. Grabbing a screenshot of the misbehavior or creating a proper demo. This guide will lay out the simple step-by-step instructions on how to do so. BOTH methods are equally acceptable.
1st Method - SCREENSHOTS
1) Press the screenshot button that you have set. Example F3 or F7. The default screenshot key for Steam is F12.
2) Once you have taken the screenshot, hit SHIFT + TAB simultaneously.
3) Click on view screenshots to view all the images you've taken.
4) Select the desired image(s), include a caption (not mandatory), and hit upload.
5) Afterwards, locate your screenshot in the "Screenshots" heading on your Steam profile. Click on the uploaded image.
6) Copy and paste the following link as shown. You will be using this as proof on your ban request. NOTE: Please ensure that the screenshot displays the wrong doing. Example: deliberate racist remarks, exploits, etc.
Important Note: A screenshot alone is not sufficient proof of a hacking attempt. Infinite ubers and aimbots for example, require method 2.
2nd Method - DEMOS
This section will explain how to make a proper demo. We require that demos be made a certain way in order to help us confirm who the player is and what he/she is doing wrong.
1) Join team "Spectator" in your current game. Ensure that you are spectating the correct player, and in first-person view .
2) Once in Spectator, open up the console with the "~" key.
3) In the console window type record "player name" (quotations NOT needed) and press the enter key or hit submit. NOTE: You may include aimbot/hacking, etc after the player name.
4) When it says "recording to "name.dem" type status in the console window and then press the enter key. (Status will lock the STEAM IDs of everyone in the server into the demo).
5) Once you feel you have gathered and recorded sufficient proof, open the console again and type stop. Press the enter key or submit. This will end the demo.
6) When you have typed stop, you should see something along these lines. If you do, you have created a proper demo. If not, refer to step one and try again.
7) After you have recorded the demo, be sure to play it back and ensure that you have captured the offense, (aimbot, hacking, griefing, etc) and that you have sufficient footage (NOT having a demo that's 10 seconds long). It would be fruitless to have a demo submitted only to find out that it was corrupted or lack of evidence was provided. Please double check your recorded footage. To play back your captured demo open up the console and type playdemo "demo file name here" and press the enter key or hit submit.
8) Locate your demo. Navigate into your game file to retrieve the .dem file for submission.
For Team Fortress 2 you will find the demo in your Local Disk (C:)\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf folder
9) Once you have located your correct demo file, copy and paste that onto your desktop. Use the link provided http://www.filedropper.com/ and upload the demo from there.
Once it is uploaded, copy and paste that link on the ban request thread and stick it under the proof subheading. Staff and/or administrators will be able to grab it easier and review it for proper submission.
