Team Fortress 2 Update Released (7/29/2008)

Recommended Posts

Finally, people won't be able to get into the others teams' spawn during normal gameplay (awesome place for a spy), no more exit crash that creates crash dumps, and no more soldiers/demos killing themselves and no one getting the points! Random killings/team swappings at round start have been also fixed!

Good biggrin.gif.

Awesome, Pyros are back to being damn near completely useless against Soldiers again. Seems like bitching and whining actually CAN change something, pretty fu ck ing stupid if you ask me.

YES! I GET TO USE COMPRESSION BLAST AGAIN :D

The only reason I was using the backburner in the first place is that it evens the odds with other pyros, that way I don't die against other pyros who have 50 more hp than me :P

"# Players killing themselves will now give a kill credit to the last enemy who damaged them"

They should have limited this to crediting pyros, especially now that the health benefit has been dumped. That was the only class Ive found that suffered (credit wise) from suicides that were about to die from fire. And technically I guess it will help them since often the solider shooting at the advancing pyro thats in their face will often kill themselves while killing the pyro as well.

Otherwise its far too situational to just make a blanket rule. It accounts for nothing but chance as anyone who plays an explosive class will know. Suiciding is admittedly sloppy, and Im guilty of it, but it shouldnt reward everyone, all the time, just because. Its too easy to run into someone at blank range, around a corner or something, and end up killing yourself while having low health. And then to give them credit because they put one bullet into you... Perhaps if there is a percentage rule, ie they take half of your life before you suicide then that might be reasonable. If its just a nick from a shotgun then no, thats absurd.

Guess we'll see how it works out. :\

Hey! Pyros are good at taking out soldiers, just not head on. You need to flank them... Pyros are for ambushing, not head on attacking :S

They always change their minds! Its fine for me though, I don't play pyro.

That suicide fix is just silly. Why don't they just make it subtract more points from the one killing themselves instead?

I know I've killed myself with my own rockets plenty of times, but it wasn't on purpose. It was because I was retarded and not paying attention to my health or where I was aiming.

So now, if I get shot once or twice by that pea shooter the scout has, then I rocket myself to death failing a rocket jump...The scout gets a kill?? wtf is that? It should take away from me instead of giving to someone else.

I can't believe people actually think the suicide points thing is stupid. Who an act of sexual intercourseing cares if it gives the attacker points? God forbid you will actually have to learn how to fu ck ing play without killing yourself! Atleast now pyro fights can go back to the civilized 1v1 shotgun wars of old and I dont have to worry about some noob killing me with backburner because he has 50 extra HP and has no idea how to play pyro. After thinking about it a bit, I am kind of glad they took it away, with pyro on the bottom of the pile again, I can be proud of doing well with it again.

As for you whiny demomen and soldiers, l2p, that is all.

Well obviously somebody cared if it gives the attackers points or they would not have made this so-called "fix". It should take more points away from the one who suicides rather than giving them to someone who didn't do anything for them besides shoot a round or two.

Edit: What about giving points to an attacker when the chickenturd sniper, or engy run and hide in the respawn.

"As for you whiny demomen and soldiers, l2p, that is all."

The blanket response for every occasion.

Nobodies immune to suicide, except maybe pyros and heavies in this case. And when the snit hits the fan and your crit rocket lands just a tad too close for comfort despite your best effort and the other person, who very well may not know h2p, hits you with a stray bullet (which may not have even been aimed at you) gets a kill credit. That doesnt make much sense does it.

Its not a huge issue by any means but its certainly not a very well thought out answer. Theres already been some reasonable alternatives suggested but Gabe & Co seems intent on half-assed fixes to larger issues.

Edit: And apparently V a l v e is officially known as Gabe & Co. on here (since it auto-formats one for the other). GG :P

So you dont think if a soldier launches someone 100ft in the air and they have 20HP and they fall to their death, the soldier/demoman should get points for it?

You dont think a pyro that succesfully gets behind a soldier/demo and almost kills them only to have them turn around and insta-gib them with a crit rocket/grenade and also kills themselves deserves a kill point? Of course we would all like to punish those who kill themselves because they are stupid or on purpose because they are stat whores, by taking away points when they suicide but could you imagine the uproar that would cause in the soldier and demo community, because we know they are all whiny enough as is, no one wants that.

And dont get angry at me with my "blanket response" just because you know your main class is #1 on the lame list.
