FUBAR That CAKE is a spy! 0 #4 Posted August 26, 2008 I guess it is cool, although I don't live in Canada
Rambler 0 #5 Posted August 26, 2008 Could be a good thing I guess. I do like going to stores and looking at my parts before I buy them... well, I guess that was only for the case. /shrug
Mana 3,867 #6 Posted August 27, 2008 Could be a good thing I guess. Oww My Nose 19 #7 Posted August 27, 2008 go to the store, find a case you like, then order that case off of newegg
Pavement 0 #8 Posted August 27, 2008 lol I spent $300 on my computer almost 3 years ago and it still runs like a champ. Thinking of picking up a new board + C2Q 6600 though...
Oww My Nose 19 #9 Posted August 27, 2008 nice choice, i'm assuming you're planning on overclocking?
Pavement 0 #10 Posted August 27, 2008 yes sir. I read good things of the 6600!
Oww My Nose 19 #11 Posted August 27, 2008 nice choice, although, mine doesn't like going past 2.65ghz .
Pavement 0 #12 Posted August 27, 2008 Very nice. My friend showed me his at 2.8 but he's using some super high end Asus board that automatically adjusts voltages when overclocking... I don't have that kind of money lol
Jengo 0 #13 Posted August 27, 2008 Very nice. My friend showed me his at 2.8 but he's using some super high end Asus board that automatically adjusts voltages when overclocking... I don't have that kind of money lol My Gigabyte board does that and it wasn't expensive at all. It now supports Phenoms too, which is my next cpu upgrade. Gigabyte's software that comes with it let's you adjust your overclock "on the fly". If you want to fine tune it more, you can do it through the BIOS, but their software is fairly decent, imo. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128014 Thats the board I have. Works like a charm for me.

Dude..have u seen the current currency Canada/Usa if you buy sumething in american that is 75$ youl only pay 78$ in canadian
Jengo 0 #16 Posted August 28, 2008 lol amd Ah yes, I almost forgot about the fanboy e-penis arguments over brand names on the Internet instead of actually looking at tried and true performance. Well this is the Internet and if you must join a bandwagon, so be it.
Pavement 0 #17 Posted August 28, 2008 Ah yes, I almost forgot about the fanboy e-penis arguments over brand names on the Internet instead of actually looking at tried and true performance.Well this is the Internet and if you must join a bandwagon, so be it. Given that I work as a computer technician and am working on a major in computer sciences, I'd say that what I have to say about AMD is beyond "fanboy"ism. I used to love AMD cpus. Found they offered great performance at a fair price. However, since the Core2; AMD just hasn't competed with Intel in terms of performance when money is not an issue. The Core2 Duos beat Phenom x3s in testing (third party testing, Intel/AMD have no hand in it) and came only slightly behind Phenom X4s. I'll dig up the tests, and there are several of them, proving this if you want. I don't care about brand. I care about performance.
Oww My Nose 19 #18 Posted August 28, 2008 Lol i remember searching newegg.ca myself a few weeks ago and i got disappointed  so i had to buy from somewhere else if you have to buy some more stuff while newegg is down, may i suggest ncix.com. it's based out of BC, and has a good selection of everything
Jengo 0 #19 Posted August 28, 2008 ..snip..and came only slightly behind Phenom X4s...snip.. I don't care about brand. I care about performance. You don't see those 2 statements conflicting at all? And when your first reply only consists of 6 letters.."lol amd"...Yeah, thats not fanboyism at all...Really. And I'm sorry, but I am also A+, NET+, and I have my CCNP. So what? I already have a bachelors degree in electronics and communications too. Big deal. Anyone can make a decision based upon performance regardless of their education level or what their occupation is. The core2duos were the only thing Intel ever made that even had a chance to compete with the multithreaded capability of the AMD chips. It isn't just about clockspeed. Or how much clockspeed you can get by overclocking. Its about cache, throughput, bandwidth, and the boards themselves in which they are run on. Regardless of cpu, if you don't have a proper board and memory, it will run like dogshit. The Phenom x3s were flawed in the beginning. I believe it was something to do with their translation buffer? I can't really remember, but it caused them to take about a 10% performance hit. However, the new Phenom quad cores are "true" quad cores, and have addressed the issue and are out performing just about everything Intel has to throw at them within the same range. Ok, well I don't mean any disrespect at all, but I really don't feel like getting into this further. I'm 33 years old and I have had my fair share of these discussions and to be honest they get quite tiring. So If I don't reply, that doesn't mean I'm not interested, it just means I'm done discussing it.
Oww My Nose 19 #20 Posted August 28, 2008 I wasn't aware that having a true quad core made a difference. and it seems somewhat unfair to compare a dual core Intel CPU to a quad core AMD CPU.

So If I don't reply, that doesn't mean I'm not interested, it just means I'm done discussing it. I said the Core2 Duo did nearly as well as the phenom quad... There's no point of bringing the C2Q into the equation. It blows it out of the water. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2282395,00.asp Here's an example of Intel making AMD look silly. Now, the intel chip in this test is about $80 more expensive, so lets look at something a little more level. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2226939,00.asp This is regarding the chip that I would like to purchase, vs an AMD chip at the same price +/- $5. Any victory that the AMD chips snatch is a narrow one, and generally gets blown away. I trust tests and numbers... Maybe its you who is the fanboy?
