Troispoint 0 #12 Posted October 23, 2008 plans psh, who need em(no rly: http://mises.org/books/TRTS/) lol you should know that its the ''laissez-faire'' economic american policies that caused this economic crisis. Welfare state FTW.
coda 1 #13 Posted October 23, 2008 lol you should know that its the ''laissez-faire'' economic american policies that caused this economic crisis. Welfare state FTW. woooow really? b/c i guess bush really is an anti-fed, anti-debt, anti-war, anti-state libertarian. gov't intervention caused the crisis (artificially low interest rates-> higher prices-> bubble-> crash... the longer you put off the crash, the worse it gets, ala the great depression)

Thats not true intervention.
coda 1 #15 Posted October 23, 2008 Bush only intervents to help the richs. Thats not true intervention. socialism for the rich is still socialism... & with the fed, no matter who gets the inflated money, it still creates a bubble. and actually, you're just plain wrong- bush was big on the home ownership for everyone dream. which involved the federal government telling mortgage companies to lend to those without credit history and keeping fed interest rates low (to drive up borrowing, or rather, to drive up debt) = intervention

But anyway, Welfare state =/= Socialism
coda 1 #17 Posted October 23, 2008 So if use your logic I could also say: Laissez-faire for the poor is still Laissez-faire. lulzBut anyway, Welfare state =/= Socialism :/ no, not really. it only takes intervention onto one group to be interventionist. i.e. do you have to invade every country on earth to be a forgein interventionist? course not laissez fare needs to be with all groups. i.e. if you invade 2 countries, does that make you noninterventionist? course not i'm tired of people saying libertarianism caused this crisis- when the opposite is true. this crisis has vindicated the libertarian economic policies. who predicted this mess? the libertarians. bernanke and the rest of the keynsian economists thought it was impossible. Troispoint 0 #18 Posted October 23, 2008 Welfare State main goal is social justice. It doesn't come even close to the Bush doctrine. It would also means the nationalisation of different things like health care. Look at the section ''Effect on poverty'' in that link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_state

coda 1 #21 Posted October 23, 2008 I've been talking about the welfare since the beginning of our discussion, you're the one who flat out ignores it i'm not talking about it b/c it is not the driving force behind the economic crisis. the driving force was the fed artificially stimulating the economy and government intervention into the mortgage industry if you really want to talk about the welfare state- why the fuck are we creating new benifits when we're 10 trillion in debt? Im not fully aware of has been done to the economy in the USA but what I know for sure is that the welfare state is almost completely immune to any sort of economic crisis and reduces poverty in a major way.
