silvio 0 #2 Posted November 6, 2008 (edited) I dont know what it is with steam lately but it takes forever to launch a game and to login in to steam, cant even play left for dead right now since "connecting to (account name)" has been on my screen for 10min.Never used to be this slow , dunno what the problem is. just played it and its a rush ,also really love some of the detail they put in it like one of my teammates bumped into a parked car and set the car alarm off and that caused a horde of like 50 running zombies to come after us...Variety of zombies too like fat gabe ones that explode from eating and playing wow too much and ones that jump ridiculous distances.Too fun , just dont play single player on normal or easy, do it on hard makes it so much more fun. Least I know its Steam and not my PC yea same with launching games and logging in , its gotten to be very irritating waiting like literally 10mins for a game to launch or to login in completely.Ive deleted cache files and tried tons of other stuff but no luck, sometimes it goes fast and sometimes it decides to be slow.Whatever you do though dont set steam to a higher priority in processes because it will easily eat 99cpu Shit Im stuck at school until 2, then I have internship until 5:30, and then some of my friends have some concert tonight they want me to go to. Mana 3,867 #9 Posted November 7, 2008 That's why I didn't preorder it. WTB demo. By the time the demo is out for the public Valve will have some of the bugs fixed (hopefully) and the server admins will have some others fixed. Then we can see how good it is, for free. Didn't feel like paying 45 dollars for a demo .
BobRoss 0 #10 Posted November 9, 2008 regarding slow steam...I have the same issues with all my steam games as well. Even audiosurf which given how simple it is should take 5 seconds to load up, but it doesn't even get to the real game loading screen for at least 2 minutes because of loading steam then logging into the game via steam (both bioshock and fallout 3 load much faster...and they're actually graphics/memory intensive games). I'm also annoyed that it wouldn't let me play those single player games when not connected to the internet because it told me I needed to update steam. I wanted to buy fallout 3, saw it offered on steam, and decided to drive to the store instead...the last thing I need is another crappy load time and requirement to be online to play a single player game. If it weren't for the awesome games that valve makes, I think steam would be out of business.
