Fun = Goldrush, Final Stage Sentry Trap

Recommended Posts

Once I was really lucky and got behind the red team in goldrush final stage before our team had capped the first point. Our team was pretty bad so I had plenty of time to set up my dispenser, sentry, and tele on the roof that the spies use to get up on the sniper battlements. When our team had capped the point (about 30 seconds before time ran out) they could not get past me. By the time I started getting hurt mildly we'd already won. I wasn't on the MVP list but I certainly made the game.

Has anyone else ever tried this? What do you guys think about it, and any strategies to improve?

Receiving end that game.

I do this regularly if one of my friends is on. Build level 3 entrance, level 3 sentry. Make demos take out enemy sentries, the uber past everyone. Get a tele exit up for backup, rebuild sentry, commence domination.

Yeah. I heard someone mention that an uber engie was the way to go, but I would of thought that it would be enough of a distraction that someone would pursue the engie out until justice was served. I guess a little engie in the back is too confusing to seem worth going after.

I'm going to try it more often... it's just an epic trick. I may also peek out now and then from the long entrance when I'm at the receiving end to make sure that no one's building.

Related: someone said that if you build the teleporter entrance for the same stage in the building in the upper right outside of spawn that the spies can't sap because it's blocked for RED. I've never heard of this before, but it seems like an excellent strategy, seeing as spy-tele-saps are devastating at that stage, especially later on.

Well, it's usually me doing the uber, and I typically have a pyro or two following me. If it's just one or two people, we just take him down. If it's more than we can handle following me, I just run around distracting them while my engineer buddy runs away. It usually gets them to forget about the engineer, or gives him enough time to set up a sentry to help him fight off the followers.

How does he evade the obligatory sentry-by-the-point behind the fence? Or the one that's on the truck usually?

this is when red is defending the first point still, so there is nothing guarding the last point

no, no, I mean the one at the FIRST point, right by the spawn gate that closes. There's always a sentry guarding that little choke point. How can an engie manage to get past there? I suppose it's a lot based on luck.

It IS based a lot on luck, but you have ways to improve your chances, namely have other medics uber demos to take out the first few sentries before you run out so you don't have to pop your uber on the engineer until much later. In addition, you can have Spies scout out sentries in the back so you can prepare yourself more.
