Banned (reason Stated As Being A Member Of Team Win)

Recommended Posts

I tried to enter the 24/7 Goldrush #2 server (I donated a week ago for the second time for 67.212.160.116 and 67.212.160.117), and it stated I was banned merely for my association with Team WIN. I'd like either the banned lifted (because I have no association with reported abuse of banning) or my money back. If I receive neither, I will attempt to seek some other form of recourse.

Thank you,

Grim Reefer [Team Win]

EDIT: Here is my steam ID:

Am I not doing something right with regard to procedure for getting unbanned?

EDIT2: I was not involved in any of the "douchebaggery" per the thread that was linked. I was studying for a final exam in clinical psychopharmacology. O.o

Guys,

Mana did a mass ban, and then unbanned a few after a couple of days. He's stated that others will be voted upon, although I don't recall seeing any specific timeline for such. I'm not sure what can be done about that. It's his server and -- once you've donated -- his money. He can do what he want. If it was termed a "purchase", you might have some recourse with PayPal or your credit card company; since it was a donation... well, donations are assumed to be given without anything in return. The legal effect is that you donate to the server and Mana/Lotus provides you with certain abilities as a "thank you."

Just FYI.

Thanks for the reply, Geode. I guess my other recourse is to spread the word to as many TF2 players as possible about Lotus servers and donations. "Be wary, the server admin will mass-ban without hesitation, and then you're fucked whether you've been playing and donating for one year or for one day." That should be a stated caveat.

EDIT: Just read your quote, Geode, and I love it! "In real life, being a good host requires tact, and speaking for a group requires intelligence. Apparently these are not required in electronic communication, where people treat others in ways they themselves would never accept. Rudeness and Incivility are the way of things in this realm of electronic meetings." Bra-fucking-vo :)

EDIT2: I think the reason why I feel so slighted is because I have played on the lotus server (goldrush #2) for such a long period of time, and I felt great about donating because I loved the server and wanted to help lotus grow for having a nice, fast server. I feel like my trust and confidence in lotus was utterly shattered when the leader of the lotus group bans me because he is too lazy to do research into what he called "douchebaggery" in order to deal with the individuals who caused the chaos. To paraphrase Balls Deep, I am also gravely disappointed that Mana punished the entire kindergarten because one or two or three kids shit their pants.

I agree, Grim. The reason you stated for donating is the same one I had: I enjoyed playing and wanted to make sure the server stayed up and running... paying for my part of its use. I enjoyed the people on it and enjoyed the games.

See I was going to unban you but I accidentally started reading this thread and now I changed my mind.

Am I not doing something right with regard to procedure for getting unbanned?

I don't have the time to look at every unban request just as it pops up. I do that once a day.

The reason for the mass ban was to send a clear message to everyone involved. The ones who were not at fault completely had a chance to get unbanned and a bunch of them are unbanned.

Whether you're a recruit or a donor makes no difference. Although the clan ban script has the ability to ignore admins/users/donators (from our database) I chose to disable it at the time as it clearly would not have been fair to others. In this case everyone but a select few had a chance at getting unbanned.

The real wisdom is that most of the people affected will not do anything similar again (whether they got caught or not) and will choose their associations more carefully. Some of the people banned cited the reason for joining as "clicking accept on a random group invite". This is dangerous for I and I am sure other clans ban known cheater groups. Accepting an invite to such a group will also get you banned even if you don't cheat or even know what it is. Yet in the end it is very much beneficial to everyone in Lotus because a bunch of hackers are banned even before hey join!

..to spread the word to as many TF2 players as possible about Lotus servers and donations. "Be wary, the server admin will mass-ban without hesitation, and then you're fucked whether you've been playing and donating for one year or for one day." That should be a stated caveat.

So carry on with that, I don't care :).

PS:

Here's a donator who got banned for abusing votebans on a separate occasion:

He got unbanned eventually. You're not the first person to get banned.
