Newbs Guide To Working Out

Recommended Posts

Way to NOT mention this at the start. The real question is, are you prepared to wear spandex?

I am half way there. I wear Pearl Izumi TRI shorts under a generic "mesh" style athletic short. I love the padding, but cant overcome wearing spandex shorts alone.

*edit*

tore the same knee twice. Once on 12/1/05 and again on 12/1/06 weird huh? Been hesitant ever since because rehab is a bitch.

I happen to have a pair of Pearl Izumi microsensor and aerosensor spandex. Paid over 100$ for those babies.

Hey man, I am a god damn engineer and I only have an aluminum bike (carbon fork though). How the hell did you spend 800 dollars on those 4 things?

Shoes = 150

Helmet = 150

Clipless Pedals = 150

Spandex = 100

Even top notch stuff its like $550. But good choice in the speedplay since you have messed up knees.

100 shorts

misc tools and cleaning supplies 50

Haha, you went all out. Let me guess, you bought a Giro Atmos helmet. FYI, they go as low as 100-129$ range. You should return it and get better deals online.

Btw, there are full carbon frame bikes out there for 1899$.

s-works helmet 09'

I am trying to help out the local shop instead of buying from from kids basement(plus I wanted it in my hands the day of and couldn't wait the 3 days for shipping). They are cool dudes and fix my bike from time to time at no charge so I like to return the favor and buy shit from them at msrp.

The speedplay pedals are wild. I only have about 20 miles on them and they feel great. The cleat is supersized and makes walking a bit odd.

I like the carbon weave on that Scattante fork sexy mmmmmm..

I dont see why so many people feel the need to support the local bike shops by paying double of what they can get elsewhere. The world is being taken over by large corporations, jump the bandwagon for teh savings! I'm all for Wal-mart and PerformanceBikes! I dont have speedplays, I have LOOK pedals.

Oh, you want carbon sexiness?

Selle Italia C64

Best seat in the world. Looks painful, but quite nice. I have the non carbon version.

no way! well I guess it was about time for someone to make a carbon saddle.

Hit the rack last night

3 sets 8 reps squat

3 sets 8 reps dumbell lunges

3 sets 8 reps leg extensions

3 sets 8 reps hammy curls

4 sets 15 reps calf raise

100 abs (50 v ups, 50 twists)

I kept it light and I am still sore as hell today.

You busted your knees and you are doing lunges? Thats nuts. Btw, I took the 135 pound intern to the gym the other day and made him do squats. He couldn't sit down today. LOL.

lunges with 45lb dumbells was easy enough. I am not trying to kill myself. As long as I stay in a straight line my knee stays together.

LOL! I am in his same boat. My calves are shot and I feel like a 90 year old man walking around. This was my first week back in the gym since last year. Go punch the intern in the leg for me.

This thread is entertaining to say the least.

IMO, the only exercise routine anyone could ever need is right here:

http://www.crossfit.com/

Crossfit is pretty cool. I been working on my overhead squats. I can do 135 x 15 ....or 185 x 4, but I dream of being able to do bodyweight x 15 one day. That is the golden standard.

In all seriousness, any suggestions for us womenfolk? I'd rather like to tone, and not build. However, here's the trick; I have a back injury that restricts most exercises.

I'll see what people suggest before submitting my current daily workout routine.

Preferably nothing with shakes or anything like that. I prefer to use what I already own or have access to.
