Certain Lotus Servers Causing Crashes?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I generally play on Lotus servers, and I really enjoy it. So first I'd like to thank Mana for keeping the servers running and being, as far as I can tell from the limited amount of times I've played with him, a pretty fun and fair guy. The rest of you also get a thumbs up for being a by-and-large great group of guys and gals to play with.

Anyway, I generally play Stock 1 and 2, though sometimes I'll go to Stock 4 if those are too full. Recently, I've been having issues where my sound will loop and the screen will freeze. The only way I can escape this is ctrl+alt+del and killing the hl2.exe process. However, I've only been having this problem on Stocks 2. Stocks 1 and 4 are fine for me, though they do hang for about four seconds at the end of a match, right before the announcer says "You failed!" or "Victory!"

I have not made any changes to my hardware, and I have already tried dropping my video and audio settings, enabling/disabling multicore support, and generally screwing around with all the options I can find to try and isolate the cause of the problem. My drivers are up to date. Playing with net_graph 3, I don't see any unusual spikes or anything out of the ordinary. I had noticed performance problems after the Sniper vs Spy update, but I assumed that was related to the shadow issue, and I don't see how it would only cause these crashes on Stock 2. I heard that there have been recent additions to some servers with explosions and rain and the like - is it possible that this could be causing a problem on Stocks 2? I've heard a handful of other people with the same complaint.

I leave it to those who know the server best to determine if there actually is a problem - I just wanted to bring this to your attention and hopefully see it resolved if it is an issue with the servers and not something on my end. If anyone has any suggestions other than stuff I've already tried, by all means, please say so! I'd be willing to try just about anything. Thanks again for your time. :)

I crash on all of the servers either on server join or mapchange. I blame either Mana or Valve (or both.)

Do you use scripts? Valve's sv_allow_wait_command implementation causes crashes in some scripts.

yeah sound like what has been happening to me. I traced it back to a script once I realized that the wait commands were a problem. Ironically enough though there are no wait commands in the script, so I'm not sure why it is causing a crash, but this fits the exact description of what was happening to me.

No scripts on my end but it happens on other servers every now and then. The MoTD is what does it for me..once it pops up and starts/tries to load, I get the same prob y'all get.

Who knows. :(
