The One Server Lotus Is Missing

I love steel. Why someone said they don't like it is beyond me, the map is a hell of a lot of fun to play, because there are so many side-routes to get to where you want to go (except A, lol, but even then, you can rush E if that is really a problem).

To actual arguments. Some of the official maps that I love happened to be community maps. I remember back in the stack 1 era it was normal for the rotation to go through turbine/badwater/steel, all community created maps. Sure, goldrush and dustbowl got thrown in there every once in a while, but the turbine/badwater/steel were the 3 core maps. Mainly because they were made with the thought that a server might have 32 people, so there are a lot more side-routes available. Dustbowl has one of the biggest choke points ever created, ever, and Goldrush is pretty high up there, with both of these maps able to be controlled with random spam at certain points.

To the original argument. While having some custom maps in the rotation might be nice, people do still play on our stocks server because we have all the maps on the rotation. I really don't know if a custom map server is needed. If a custom map is deemed good enough for the majority of the community to like it, then it'll get made official in due time (Valve time, lol). Granted I don't play a lot right now due to lost of ability to play (no computer can run it in a playable fashion), when I do come back, I probably would not play on the custom server, mainly because learning new maps like that becomes frustrating (see: Swiftwater. Fun map but the amount of side-routes baffles the mind, and I get lost a lot).

Idk, just my 2-cents on the matter.

Ahah well, I dislike playing Steel because I find it impossible to get your entire team to focus on the goal at hand. There will always be one third of your team just walking about needlessly around points B, E, D while the rest struggle to even get A. How many times must people repeat the same mistakes before realizing it simply doesn't work? Like that lone scout that tries to solo cap E. It just never works. A situation akin to having your engies build on the last point of a CP map (say Well) instead of helping you move forward. It is rare that I actually have a good game on Steel because teamwork is thrown at the window when people are given the option to roam around freely, I've realized :P. Other than that, I don't really have anything against the map itself.

I still play and will continue to because of the community :P but often times I've found myself going over to another server just because they might be playing a better map that Lotus doesn't have (swiftwater is one I'm still learning myself lol)... or because the server crashed yet again and I refuse to play another round of Dustbowl :D.

I tend to hate steel nowadays because all it ends up being is one team sits at B and camps spawn, and it empties the goddamn server. Same reason I hate turdbine or the CTF version of Well.

On the subject of steel, the thing I like most about it is how the map opens up more when more points are captured. I'd like to see that in more maps, not just control points, but maybe payload too (ctf would be interesting, you get more routes as you cap more of the intel) and it seems like it would offer more interesting gameplay.
