Krash 1,040 #3 Posted June 1, 2010 We were going through astronomy about a month ago in my science class (Yes im in 8th grade ) and we were going over scale. I like astronomy because its all a complete mind fuck from what we were raised to know.

Victoreem the V of doom 30 #5 Posted June 1, 2010 Those aren't galaxies in the final clip. They are massive space battles spanning the vastness between systems. You feel small now? Surprisingly my penis wasn't on the first few clips. (sorry too easy)
Brokkoly 11 #6 Posted June 3, 2010 It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination. - The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy

Although the universe is 13.7 billion years old, general relativity states that space can expand faster than the speed of light. The diameter of the universe is about 93 billion light years across. said da ape So why is it I am in a top secret lab, and you are sweating your ass somewhere in the deserts of egypt? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3337/3479615778_9a67648f90.jpg

Brokkoly 11 #13 Posted June 4, 2010 huh, he never took a science class, well, i guess that's how he was able to do such great fiction, not constrained by reality

Nket 16 #17 Posted June 25, 2010 Space is not infinite, at least they believe they cant find an edge to it because it is ever expanding from a center point (Big Bang theory) some scientists believe that it will eventually over extend itself by expanding so far and rip itself in half (Big Tear/Rip? theory) There is the simple fact that. We. Don't. Know. We LITERALLY cannot see the current universe, once we look at stars and galaxies through a telescope we look into the past. Those objects are SO far away that we are seeing images that are taking LIGHTYEARS to reach us (amount of distance light can travel in one earth year, ITS A LARGE NUMBER) in fact we are at any one time seeing the Sun.. (6) minutes in the past? Its somewhere around there but I cant be arsed to look it up. If you think about it, the universe could be exploding in those distant shots, or a star could have burned out 500,000 years ago, we would not know because they are so far away the light we are seeing has taking a VERY long time to reach us. This is also why I believe we can never leave this solar system and make it anywhere else before a human life ends of old age and faster than light travel cannot ever exist, faster than light travel would be time travel. If you turned on a flash light and pointed it at a wall, then moved faster than the light coming out of the flashlight to the wall, wouldn't you see yourself turn on the flashlight? And if you had done that, wouldn't you have seen yourself against the wall before you turned the flashlight on? /rant I love space and light, it is entirely too up to speculation and theories so anything is possible really. Its weird how space expands faster than the speed of light. Based on wikipedia, the observable universe is 45 billion light years away, yet the universe is only 13.7 billion years old. Brokkoly 11 #19 Posted June 25, 2010 the entire fact that we are here is an amazing coincidence, a stray speck of dust a few billion years ago and we might not be here.

And if you had done that, wouldn't you have seen yourself against the wall before you turned the flashlight on? I think you would see yourself turn the light on but not before in a perfect world. The human eye cant process that speed. you would literally not be able to see anything other then the wall before you turned on the light and the flashlight after you moved to the wall. What we need are some stargates
You suck and have no life 203 #21 Posted June 28, 2010 The force required to accelerate you to speed of light is equal to infinity. Before you even run near the speed of light, you would be turned into GOO. It would be like firing you out of a gun like a bullet, and even that is no where need the force to accelerate you near speed of light.
