Disruptive Donor

A player/donor on lotus is using [fail] group/clan tag. He is not a part of [fail] . He is currently going under the name' {fai} My knife is ' Steam I.D 0:0:30350497 1:03:21 740 . Like I said he is a donor. I ask why he had the tag and told me he thought it was cool. Just don't want trouble with lotus if this guy end up being a dick. Being 98% of the fail clan/group plays on Lotus servers it would be hard not to think somone would mistaken him for [fail]. Since I posted about him a week ago he has been trolling the server. Thanks for your help in this matter.

Fail 'clan' has been around doing this for a while. But nothing can be done if you dont post a demo.

So tonight I get a message fomr my friend that a "FAIL" DEATH STRIKE is on the server votekicking (or trying )people......guess who it was when I went on...you guess it YOUR donor. Just look at his chat log...and how many times he changes his name. Pretending to be me or any "FAIL" member. All I ask is for a lotus admin to be on without the lotus tag and see for yourselfs. Or just as anyone on the server. I have almost 1000 on Lotus servers and I have NEVER had a donor be such an ass. STEAM_0:0:30350497.

No, he is not my buddy. I just don't see any point in banning someone for stupid reasons. So far there has been no good evidence of any asshattery, and without evidence I'm not banning someone.

I'm not saying you even have to ban him, just let him know to knock his shit the hell off. I'll be sure to demo his garbage if I see him in game.

Ok a point from an outsider in this situation.

@ all the people complaining about abuse without a demo or any substantial proof: The admins are not defending the donor in question, they are merely asking for definitive proof. A demo is not hard to obtain, all you need to do is open up the console using the ` button at the top left of your keyboard (enable it first if you haven't already done so) and type the following:

record [insert douchebag's name here] 

after a few seconds type in the following so that admin's can confirm the identity of said abusive person

status

and when you want to stop recording:

stop

Then upload the demo to a filesharing website such as rapidshare or filefront (there is a good list of possible websites to use in the 'how to request a ban' sticky), then post a link in the forum and wait for an admin to check it over

Chat logs can also be good proof but if you are going to use only these, please provide reference (or screenshots) to the incidents in the chat logs you are referring to. Demo's are usually better. I imagine that the server logs record details about votebans started but I expect it is quite a bit of effort to trawl through the logs to find the incidents you refer to (easier if you give precise time, date and server - but a demo is still by far the easiest option!)

Bottom line, the admins here - while called "staff" - are doing so voluntarily (in fact, paying for the right to do so in this community, not the other way around). They are not working for you; they are not at your beck and call to come and find the proof themselves. They are here to police the servers when they can find time (they do have lives too by the way) and provide actions whenever it is necessary. Give them the proof and things get sorted out much quicker.

I have little doubt that the person this (and a few other) topic was started about is a first class dickhead given the number of complaints and that they are consistent; however I have yet to see anyone provide any conclusive proof, and since we live in a 'innocent until proven guilty' society, a gut feeling simply will not do for a decision to ban someone - particularly someone who has put money towards the on-going costs of the servers.

If all that was too much for you to read then a tl;dr version is below:

Get demo -> Post demo -> Admin watches demo -> Admin bans abuser {much faster than what is currently happening}
