Dods: Class Restrictions?

I've been noticing a lot more complaining, and yes, I admit I complain myself, about the amount of MGs and/or snipers on various maps. Is there any way we can throw a limit to snipers / MGs to say 3 each max per team? Some maps we're looking at 5-6 MG on LOSING teams. :(

Just a suggestion. :D

I remember way back in the day when I was apart of running a very successful DoD/S community (man the good ol days) and on our server, we limited MGs to 1 and snipers to 2. It was so nice. It does get stupid when there's so much MG spam. Especially on Axis. Partly while I don't play DoD:S very often. Never any servers that have smart class limits.

We don't have class limits on any of our servers. That's probably not likely to change in the future.

But I will try it out randomly one day, just to see what happens.

So last night with the MG restriction at 1, here was the feedback I got when I asked what people thought.

  • They like the idea of restrictions
  • They would rather 2 sniper and 2 MG
  • If restrictions are enabled, they'd like medic
  • Some didn't like restrictions-rather be free

The server sucks like this. The people who don't like 20 MG's on a map can go play Halo.

So.. you got the MG then went afk.

Awesome, finally got the mg. *rando camper outside spawn* FUCK, Switched to the other team.

In all honesty, I think 3 MG limit would be better. But the truth is, if you limit any one class, you will have random bads who come and take one and refuse to give it up. Even when they're 4-14 as an MG.

The class limits are temporary. It will go back to normal next time the server restarts.

So I just played DoD:S for the first time in a year or so, brought back some great memories. Anyways, I think MGs, Snipers, and Rocket should be limited to 2 each class. Honestly, I'm down for 1 MG only but I know that gets a lot of heat. It's just stupid when there's 3 MGs and makes me not want to play on the Lotus server.

Most of the time there is only 2-3 mgs and snipers. Things usually balance themselves out because there are only so many good positions for those weapons without directly competing with your teammates for kills.

I'm all nay for any sort of restriction, because there's always the one jackass that refuses to provide support.

There were three snipers yesterday (Total of 5, the last two were doing a tremendous job at covering fire) that a lot of people on the Wermacht wanted to Vote Kick so badly, they had a K/D of 3:62 3 fucking kills out of 62 deaths! That's the king of the noobs there, followed by a sniper with 8 kills and 39 Deaths. *You know what else is funny? They weren't even trying with their damn Kar, no, they were using Luger and Spade. What. The Hell. (I think I have pictures somewhere...I'll upload in the next day or so)

MG classes two, had two MG42s stay in the spawn, not even doing jack, just sitting there in AFK. Unless some sort of Admin is on, don't expect the entire server to be courteous and help kick them.

If the server were to be monitored better, not saying its not being administrated AT ALL, but having people be on more often, and stay online longer, then maybe restrictions would be best, since they would be able to see what noob goes AFK and kick his ass outta there, opening up a slot...but the majority of the time you see noobs and trolls and just plain cannon fodder for the grinder. Let the noobs have their snipers, their rockets, their MGs, watch how easy ye ol Frag nades and Team Work can overcome them.

If the mass of gunners and rockets and snipers is too much for you...then get better? I've had to deal with nearly 10 MGs, there's a fine line when you have too many and they all can't stay in the same spot now...too easy of a target :P

I helped run a very successful DoD server/community back in DoD1.3 and then crossing over into DoD:S in its heyday when it was extremely popular back from like 02-06. It's not that I suck or am not familiar with the game, just frustrating, that's all.

I know what you mean, I'm a DoD 1.3 player, kinda like the older game better.

Restrictions worked on THAT game because it was more evenly balanced, where in DoD:S, there is no matching class, each class has their special perks, strengths and weaknesses, where in 1.3, while one had a huge weakness, another class was readily available. Like the Sergeant and Master Sergeant classes. (In my opinion, Greasegun pwns Thompson :P)

Maybe a few limits would be reasonable but the way the server's being maintained and the one too many idiots joining the support classes and being afk...is really a downer, see where I'm getting at?
