Team Fortress 2 Now Free To Play

Recommended Posts

Very concerned about this.

A number of issues for me:

1. What now happens to the gameplay? Back to the time when it was released, and no one knew how to play, so everyone was simply playing counter-strike style, with no tactic, like a one man army? Reason i say this: First time i played for about 2 hours, got fed up and shelved the game for 9 months. Only came back to it because i got bored of the other games i had, and instead of getting something else i decided to give TF2 a go again. Then i saw the potential, and been plying since 2008. I am still by no means good, or do the objectives well, or co-ordinate the team well. However, i do see that there are other players who are oblivious to what they can/should do. And i mean these are fairly regular players. When I shout to the person i am healing "spy behind you" there is no reaction... happens a lot with pyros not spychecking, even when clearly asked if they can do so. So basically counter-strike style, and while CS is 90% about aim, TF2 is 90% about team work i do not see this going down to well with the PRO's, Regulars and the general community.

2. The issue with influx of cheaters? I am not sure how you get the free version, if it is any different from the version we already have or what valve have done about the accounts getting banned. So the way i see it, is that if we bought the game, then got caught cheating and subsequently banned, then we would have to buy the game again, on a different account and hence spend cash. So that was kind of deterious to hacking. Now we got it for free, so i can register hundreds of steam accounts, using phony emails and so on. So if i am caught cheating now, then no biggie, I just use another free account and download the free game again, and use the same free cheats.......until i get caught again in 2 weeks.

3. Does this mean that future content will not be free? A typical scenario here, seen with many other free games, and even for the ones that you paid. Valve makes the game free for anyone, so now the hat store (where everything is on sale) will recieve a massive amount of customers who got the game for free but want to buy stupid a** hats (sorry I love hats, A LOT ). I dont buy anything from the store anyway, however the worry is that future content such as maps may not be free anymore, and it will be like COD with extra map packs for 13 USD. This also counts for the store. It is possible that the future items and Item Sets will not be availibale to find, and not possible to craft them.

Sorry for long type and rant, but i dont see this as all that much of an awesome idea. Its seems more like Valve is selling out TF2. If anyone has some input for point 1 and 2 then please clear it up for me with a possible solution.

Thanks

They obviously made it free so people would buy from the store. The game was down to $10... A hat cost $7, so new people buying 2 things will make more money than just buying the game.

Free to play players are SOOO BAD. That's my problem with it, I don't really care about the 20 bucks since i spent it like 2-3 years ago... but playing medic isn't even fun anymore when most of the people your healing can't even get kills. /:

As a Medic, I can safely say that having to work with new players in some kind of hellish neverending school holiday is raising my blood pressure.

Nay, I for one do not use the cash shop and i don't think many others do either but i don't know for sure

Now that people don't buy the game and the cash shop is little used (at least i think)

Where is TF2 own Update budget you could always argue its coming from other valve games

but then that's taking money from other projects like tf3

Its just heavy rumor at the moment

But why wouldn't they make tf3 if tf2 was such a success its just good business

I must say, there must have been a shit load of F2P players on tonight because I havn't seen it this bad since the first few days of F2P. Seeing medics run around with 100% Uber's and medics that don't follow you and don't respond back when you try to talk to them. Ugh.

There is one thing I'll admit I like about it being f2p, bad snipers! They just stand completely still and can't aim for shit. Free doms!
