Nano 7,892 #1 Posted February 13, 2012 Just an idea. Not a big deal at all but would be nice to turn off the chat and mute for those people being particularly annoying (i.e. spammers but not necessarily micspammers).
JMaster299 654 #2 Posted February 13, 2012 /agree Give people an option other then kick when dealing with disruptive people.
Barbaro 466 #3 Posted February 14, 2012 That would be lovely. Taking away the mic doesn't necessarily impact game-play. I'd have to ask that it require less votes, like votescramble.
Alex Soulbane 13 #4 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Or just no vote at all, just make an individual option? Or am I saying something stupid by that :/ Well ofcourse a vote, but an individual option too. Edited February 15, 2012 by Alex Soulbane
Harlequin 2,975 #5 Posted February 15, 2012 "chat and mute" ignore the chat for some ppl would be a great thing. cheers
Kerberos 3,170 #6 Posted February 15, 2012 100% Agree. I've had to mute people for mic spamming after several attempts to shut them up when people get pissed and leave and/or complain. Then they just bitch in the chat about hacking, or spamming more :S
Mana 3,867 #7 Posted February 16, 2012 Hmm, just need to decide if it should be separate or just added to votemute. We had this discussion before, but it got nowhere. If votemute both gags and mutes then the person won't be able to communicate at all. On the other hand if they are just annoying on the mic and the server players decide to mute him/her then he/she will still be able to communicate through chat. Kerberos 3,170 #8 Posted February 16, 2012 Personally I'd have no issues with muting them, then having another vote to gag them,.
Barbaro 466 #9 Posted February 16, 2012 Personally I'd have no issues with muting them, then having another vote to gag them,. This sounds like a reasonable option. Some people only spam the mic, others will go above and beyond to spam in chat. Those are the true troublemakers and should be punished. Kerberos 3,170 #11 Posted February 16, 2012 But in those cases there exists an voteban, ofcourse. Yes, but if they are playing also I would rather keep them on the server, only gagged and muted.
Barbaro 466 #12 Posted February 16, 2012 But in those cases there exists an voteban, ofcourse. Which hardly works because players are too scared or stupid to call one.
teh_pwnerer 279 #13 Posted February 16, 2012 My vote would be to have separate commands - that way if you mute someone (voice) they have a chance to be apologetic in text chat and ask for an un-mute. If they just make matters worse in text chat then you can gag or voteban them.

Harlequin 2,975 #15 Posted February 18, 2012 hm, I remember a lot of cs servers with personal settings. Is there no chance to get an individual chat-mute function for each player? I also don't like the vote mutes.... I can't see the point in voting "yes" and then the vote fails... then the pissed ppl still have to go to theire options and mute the person themselfes. Just sad that valve did not implemend an ignore funciton for ingame chat on individual players. I even may "ignore" them via steam, but on the servers they will still write shit to me so the question is, if we have no other option then "vote" and then the chat for this person is blocked to ALL players. regards bLooDyX
Harlequin 2,975 #16 Posted February 20, 2012 whatever way it will go... we need a gag plugin. http://forums.gamingterritory.com/topic/17566-racist-donor-and-griefer/ see the link above for an actually ban request on a donor. I know lotus supports free speech, but there should be a possibility for OUR GAMIN' community to stop Trolls if needed - without a ban. Free speech back and forth, a gag may help for this kind of dumbness. looking forward for the implementing cheers.

IceSage 58 #18 Posted February 21, 2012 I believe it should be separate. Some people are either annoying on Mic, or annoying via text. Rarely are people disruptive on both. If they are, then they usually get votebanned.

Barbaro 466 #21 Posted February 22, 2012 This is wrong. Just mute someone who is spamming the mic, you will see the immediate result of him beginning to spam the text chat. Guaranteed 100% And then what, who's gonna gag him on that end?
Kerberos 3,170 #22 Posted February 22, 2012 This is wrong. Just mute someone who is spamming the mic, you will see the immediate result of him beginning to spam the text chat. Guaranteed 100% I don't see the mute command in the admin console?! Therefore, for me it'd have to be a vote, which might not win:S
Barbaro 466 #23 Posted February 22, 2012 I don't see the mute command in the admin console?! Therefore, for me it'd have to be a vote, which might not win:S It never does. Always one or 2 votes short of initiating it. Getting to to pass loses even MORE votes.
Nirrox 358 #24 Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) Sorry for the necrobump, still better than making a new thread addressing the same issue: Â Today on 2fort UK FastSpawn there was this player again who was extremely annoying, swearing all the time, insulting people etc. Yet he was only doing it via text chat (i was in the other team, apparently he was using his mic as well but got votemuted). I was just wondering if it would be possible to add a "votegag" option for non-admins to the votemenu, since this is pretty much the only way to prevent this. So a seperate option, on the one hand votemute for disabling the mic and on the other hand votegag for disabling the text chat. I dont think this would lead to any more abuse (than there already is, which is always a problem with voting options), because it could follow the same voting rules as votemute. Â Now this has already been discussed, but as Mana said the discussion "got nowhere", so maybe its getting somewhere this time. Sphagnum Peat Moss 748 #25 Posted March 4, 2015 I agree, and my vote is in favor of combining them so that votemute also gags them.  Reasons: Votemutes are more likely to pass than votekicks. We want our servers to be populated, so if the problem can be solved without removing players by just silencing them, then it should be (currently regular players have no option other than kicking if there isn't an admin available to gag). Votemuted players are most likely to either leave the server, or stay on it and play while muted.  Kicked players are most likely to immediately rejoin the same server, so a kick often solves nothing. If someone is spamming one and gets stopped, they immediately start spamming any other form of communication they have access to (chat spam, mic spam, command spam). Subsequent voting takes more time and distraction (to read and respond to votes) to solve the same problem. Subsequent voting tends to draw fewer votes. Spam is spam, regardless of which medium the person is using to do it, and it should forfeit their right to any form of communication since they're already demonstrating that whatever they have to say is spammy and worthless. When the server votes to quiet them, the server has expressed that they don't care what else this person has to say. They don't need a chance to be apologetic.  They just need to shut up.  Them not shutting up is the problem, and when it's solved, it's solved.  A chance to express regret is not necessary to the enjoyment of others.
