Ban Request - (S.T.A.R.S.) Albert Weskler

Date, Server/Game, Time : Every time he plays ... but the demo was taken on February 26 around 21:00 / Server : CTF Germany

Explanation of the incident. : Spawnkilling again and again without stopping. Every time he joined the server, I know I'll have to leave the server because it will become very exasperating.This is certainly not a hack, but it's completely anti game when it does not stop. Stupid mentality.

Thanks for taking the time to submit.

In this case:

A. There are no rules against spawncamping

B. Please remember to record a demo, many staff won't look at it in any other format.

C. Please remember to run a status command next time.

EDIT: Nothing here against the rules. You can always go spy/dead ringer and stab him in the back next time.

No, but disruptive gameplay whereby player cannot actually play the game, as they're trapped in spawn is I'd say temp-ban. Tbh I'd let Afro, Mana, Gotcha or Deja handle this one

Difficult to get around when you can not get out of spawn ... It does not motivate to go back on your servers.

I agree, I've told some people who come onto my server JUST to spawn camp, not to (without needing to threaten) as I was getting multiple complaints that we couldn't play the game.

I'd still say this should be looked over by a staff member, because this is something I'd warn the camper about in honesty. It's not against the rules, but disruptive gameplay is.

Yes indeed. I am not against the spawnkilling when a player is in front of the spawn normally, this is normal. But not when it is not to stop just to increase his number of kills. It's completely abused and really not fun.

It is really impossible to get through the door as it stays in front with his medic, (and when there are two medics, good luck to defeat the heavy ...) Even with spy, if you are invisible, the door opens anyway, he shoots, you die. And even when I'm on his team, it bothers me. It is not fair play.

Admin should come play in the opposing team when that player is present, we'll see if it will always be as lax with spawnkilling...

I would call unfair or abusive spawn killing, spawn killing in which where the instant you spawn, you die. You've got a resupply cabinet that is endless, you spawn with a full loadout and health and you have a team to work with. If your team seriously gets spawn camped by a medic/heavy pair you really deserve it, as cliche as that sounds. He's stopping enemy reinforcements, how far exactly back, should he and his medic sit, before it's no longer camping?

You can say it's disruptive all you want, he's not exploiting, he's not glitching and he's helping his team win regardless of what kind of stats result from it. I think it's more disruptive to try and tell others how to play who aren't breaking the rules. Just my opinion..

I wasn't going to post back because I already said everything needed, but I can tell that you haven't used the dead ringer before. If you have it out when you open the door, it will look like you die, but you don't you instead turn invisible.

Here is exactly what to do to kill campers.

Option 1:

1. Switch to spy

2. Equip dead ringer and bring it out

3. Get hit by heavy (it immediately turns you invulnerable and invisible)

4. Walk behind the heavy (don't bother with the medic, you just want to clear the door), uncloak.

5. Backstab for instant kill

Option 2:

1. Teamwork. Have 2-3 people respawn as heavy, all leave at once.

I'm not trying to be condescending with this post, it just seems like you didn't understand the suggestion in my first post.

No no, apologies! I would have just given a warning or something, not ban unless the entire server (including his own team) were complaining, in which case I'd only *temp* ban so the player gets the hint, much like a voteban but instant. I agree it's not against the rules, but disruption to a high level is, and ruining peoples games so they leave isn't really fair game.

How bad does it have to be to be at a "high level"? I don't mind them doing runs on my spawn (especially if the objective is next to it), but Heavy/Medics, Demos sticky camping, Engineers setting up sentries outside the door, etc. just make the game un-fun. I understand you can say that "Your team should have done this or that" but a lot of the time the damn team doesn't wanna work together. Hell, I can barely find matches where I don't have 4+ Spies/Snipers/Scouts and out of them, only one player is any good and the others all refuse to change class.

I get that this is a free game on a free server and you guys are, naturally, free to run it however you want. I just want some clarification as to when I have a legitimate complaint. The game loses it's value when the instant I leave my spawn, I get killed over and over and over again and any tactic to counter it fails. (Like in the Heavy/Medic example, they also have a Pyro spychecking non-stop just to counter a Spy) Every counter-measure to spawncamping has a counter-measure and you end up spending the whole match one-upping each other instead of playing the damn game.

To simply answer your question. There is no situation I can ever imagine involving spawn camping that would be bad enough to result in a ban (even temporary). The important thing to realize is that there is no "spawn camping" in the traditional sense in TF2. When you spawn you can run around without leaving all day, and you are 100% protected with unilimted health/ammo at your disposal. If someone isn't a good enough player to heavy/medic uber out, or go spy and stab the camper in the back, or snipe as the door opens, or use the bonk drink, or any number of other ways of leaving, it doesn't mean the person outside spawn should be banned. Looking at your score, I wouldn't think it would be a problem for you. I hope that clarifies.

I get what you're saying and it makes sense. It's just that it's often hard nigh impossible to get the team to cooperate in eliminating the threat. They'd much rather run out the instant they spawn and get mowed down until they eventually swarm the threat to death... Or in the case of guerilla hits on the spawn, ignore it. This usually ends with me having an aneurysm.

Easier said than done, you can ask in chat to play teamplay, it will not necessarily occur. And everyone has no friend who can come help you on TF2 ... And everyone has not necessarily your "superskill" to overcome these crappy players.

The purpose of a server is to make the game fun is not it? But you do not make it fun by allowing this stuff. I regularly play on your servers, and this is the ONLY player who has "consistently" that kind of attitude. It is absolutely intolerable, every time it connects, I leave as many players on my team. Why stay? I do not understand that admins consider the spawnkilling is "normal". No, this is not normal, it's normal when that happens sometimes, but not over the life of a party. It's annoying.

It frankly does not a good reputation to your servers. I'm starting to hate them. While you certainly do not care because your servers are relatively full, but it will certainly not be always the case, especially if you let players like that diminish the pleasure of others.

So "MASSIVE" spawnkilling perhaps part of the game, it is not a hack, OKAY, but it destroys the pleasure of others. And permit is unfortunate. But obviously, you'll still find me great solutions. I think I found the best: leave and find another server.

I agree with Proloser, I would not ban anyone for spawn camping, it's part of the game (unfortunately), and in honesty if I was to ever take any kind of action against a spawn camper, I'd have to have actually been on the server at the time. Even then it's be a votekick (maybe voteban on rare occasions like if they come back and continue).

This SHOULD be locked. It's going no where, and it's clear that no action will go against spawn campers, though I think we do appreciate the report :- )

Spawnkilling isn't a rule. There are several way around it easily.
