Microphone Question

Recommended Posts

Hi all-

Is there a way to keep the microphone open at all times, without having to press V to activate it?

nope, its how valve made it. it would definitely be called mic spam if there was no mic key lol.

I figured. I was just sick of hitting C or B by mistake or having to stop moving to voicechat. Found a workaround, though. Switched mic to Q. Thanks for responding though.

I don't use quick switch, but have no hard time using V as mic... use your thumb.

Index finger on D, 2nd finger on W, third on A and 2nd again on S (moving back and forth), then use your thumb for V :|

I have cerebral palsy, I have a hard time with my left hand, so it's hard for me to hold my hand like that. I like how I have it, it seems to work well and it's easy for me and my disability.

You can try adding this to your autoexec.cfg file.

alias "talktoggle" "talkon"

alias "talkon" "+voicerecord; alias talktoggle talkoff"

alias "talkoff" "-voicerecord; alias talktoggle talkon"

bind "KEYHERE" talktoggle

Change KEYHERE to whatever key you want. I'd recommend using a different key than the one you use now to talk so that you can either toggle or hold-to-talk depending on which key you hit.

Here is a list of keys so you can customize to anything (including mouse buttons): http://wiki.teamfort...st_of_key_names

Here is a copy paste version set to the minus key on the keypad (I thought that might be easier for you since you have a harder time with your left hand).

alias "talktoggle" "talkon"
alias "talkon" "+voicerecord; alias talktoggle talkoff"
alias "talkoff" "-voicerecord; alias talktoggle talkon"
bind "KP_MINUS" talktoggle

Thanks for the tip. I've found that using Q works pretty well, so I won't be being obnoxious any time soon.

I use F for game chat and mouse 5 for mumble. im to much of a quickswitch addict to change Q to anything else.

What's mumble?

WIllerms is trolling again. He loves Mumble because it's harder to mute him.

O christ...and he's on my friend's list.

I hope he doesn't do this on the servers....he's gonna fuck my K/D with his annoyance...

switch mic to f which is my preference, and then just use v as inspect - i don't inspect other players so therefore better configuration for playing

Without quick-switch, you're at a disadvantage.

I don't think it's any slower to use the number keys, especially if you have fast weapon switch enabled. Plus if you're using the fast-switch feature you have to maintain an awareness of what your last-used weapon was, rather than just go to the one you want.

Well, it would be the same speed, unless you're using weapons that allow it, such as the Degreaser.

Point is, I prefer it because you're always 100% certain on the weapon you're switching to. Probably takes a little longer in terms of finger travel, but... whatever.

There's a fix for what weapon you will switch to as well, its called Remember weapon in the Advanced Options Menu.

You learn some great stuff about this game called TF2...
