When you have motds disabled, the advertisement plays for it's entire length. Some people don't like motds, as disabling it is a feature, I don't understand your argument. The sound continues to play. It's super loud and obnoxious. Disabling motds is common.

OH. I didn't realize that, I have motds enabled so when I hit the spacebar it (and it's sound) instantly disappear. You can hopefully see my thought process now.

Given the choices of playing after an advertisement or not playing at all, I think I'd choose not playing on the servers at all.

The advertisements are intrusive and bypass "disable html motds."

I have 3810 hours played (158.75 days), I do not idle, and at least half of them are on your servers. I'm really disappointed.

It's not something that I want to do, because I do enjoy the regulars that frequent Lotus servers, but until this change is reverted I will not play on Lotus servers.

Maybe...stop acting like such a holier-than-thou Devil's Advocate? No offense but the attitude's only agitating the situation, not helping it.

I've actually noticed this, I have not tampered with the MOTD settings or any of that bullshit, but the videos are becoming IMPOSSIBLE to skip. It loads up and for some reason, now it takes up the ENTIRE screen where it used to be within the border. Even if one hits Continue, I'M getting hit with very considerable lag, my PC starts bitching and I lag for a good 1-2 minutes, IN-GAME. (Meaning that it's lagging me during Team Selection, during Class and finally, during the first 45-1 minute AFTER all of that before I can begin coward killing time.)

I'm unsure if this is related to the advertising company or an update that gave it more freedom to spam than it used to. Not that it's flat out annoying, per say, as it's helping the servers but it defiantly has gotten to be above a nuisance, now a bug/glitch/faggot thingy that's causing a direct effect on game-play.

Sure, it may be only during the beginning, no longer than 3-5 Minutes AFTER the Continue button has been hit but....still something to annoy players with.

I'd like to add my 2 cents on this topic. I have motds disabled, and whenever that Anthem ad loads, my game 9 times out of 10 crashes. If I mash the spacebar fast, it still plays in the background, and still crashes. My ping also spikes if I don't crash, and lasts for a while in the 100s range when I'm normally around 40 (which isn't too bad but it really throws off my aim since I'm used to low ping). I have the latest version of flash and my computer can more than handle the game, but TF2 crashes almost always when this ad plays. I was unable to get on just before posting this because I tried connecting 4 times and each time when the ad played my game crashed. It's really annoying, and since Lotusclan is one of my regular servers I play on it's a real barrier to my play time.

When you disable the MOTD, does the video STILL fill up your screen? Meaning it extends past the chalkboard frame? I've never seen it do that till recently.

I wonder if it's Pinion's away to get us to watch then submit a 10 second survey. I don't mind them at all if it helps Lotus, but if we have ALREADY done it, why continue to bother us? You're going to get the wrong results if people continue to take them again and again. As for the videos, they are more annoying now than I've seen and I thought it was the desktop on it's last heartbeat....because it's doing it to my LAPTOP which is also new. (For those in Lotus that know of me problem D:<)

If I disable something I don't want someone working around what I disabled just for ad revenue. Just like I can disable Valve's loading intro. Unfortunately it looks as nobody who can change this is actually going to give it time of day. This will end my days at Lotus and I can only hope mana corrects this very severe error. I along with the four others that played with me on Lotus servers just donated together about $350 to Source Op. I don't say this as if it hurts Lotus any but my point is if you don't get greedy and try to bypass the very thing we disable you get donations. I've had some great times here and thanks for the memories.

Mana has been on vacation this week and he implemented the full screen ad change shortly before he left. It could very well be something he can fix easily when he gets back. He's never made anyone sit through the entire ads in the last 6 years or however long he's done it, I think you all just need to give him a chance to correct the problem.

I don't think the Full-Screen is the issue, I'm just curious on that part. If you can make it full Screen, make a huge Lotus Logo for the MOTD

I didn't disable my account here or anything I still have updates to this topic emailed to me. If mana comes in and fixes this I might reconsider playing again on the lotus servers. I have a large friends list and we all pretty much travel together (most of the time) as I'm sure does most people on their friends list. After seeing my original post here a larger amount of people thought I should speak for them and I did. I appreciate ProLoser filling us in on why mana hasn't spoken a word to anyone about this. I do know from numbers that the Lotus servers haven't hurt much from this but some of the players who want to be on those servers have. I look forward to those in the minority mattering enough to look into it when mana comes back. And exactly why is my rank increasing after not playing on a lotus server for a week or so?

If you are looking for an easy way to get through the ads: for Steel Series, wait until you see the ad start, then click it. It will load a web page, and the sound will stop. For the laundry ad, wait until the ad loads, then click the mute button in the top right. It will play, but no sound.

This should solve your problems for now.

From your video I didn't see the page that stops videos come up.

Enable HTML motds and the page that stops the video will be allowed to load.

Later I will look into making this work for those with HTML motds disabled as well. But you have a fix available already.

Spamming space bar: bad. Reading what people post that allows you to fix the problem: good. As I posted a week and a half ago, don't just space through. Wait for the ad to start and either mute it (for the video ads) or click it (for Steel Series).

Oh, I know and I've read the whole topic. I updated that flash from your link and know that enabling MOTD is a temporary solution. I was just posting to vid so people could see what was happening when you have motd disabled and how much of a bother it is in that case

Not everyone reads these forums of course, and the problem shouldn't be solved with "we expect people to know that turning motd on fixes this" as a ton of folks won't know that's a cause - I didn't until I specifically came to these forums to look up the ads and see if anyone else was annoyed at them. It's just a case that players who don't know motd causes this will get this problem and really dislike it, which being tied to lotusclan servers, is something that you guys will want to solve even if there is a workaround available
