...What the hell? :| Seriously? There's nothing more in this game that I hate more than that bollocks random crit. It shouldn't be in game, it just shouldn't. Anything "random", per se, shouldn't be in a non-randomized game. It annoys the ever-loving- hell out of me.

Is there any way to disable random crits? Is there a way to add disable/enable random crits to the vote menu? The voting option would be more ideal, 'cause I know "some" people just loooove R. Crits...Majority being the f2ps I play with, but still. Some enjoy it.

It's just a bollocks piece of gameplay...

It is possible to disable them, and there are no-crit servers out there. The problem is that disabling crits on a server results in it being removed from the TF2 Quickplay function. As such, it is not a viable option for servers that receive significant traffic via Quickplay, as do most Lotus servers.

There are pros and cons. Certainly if you're playing a bit more seriously/competitively, then it is damn annoying (though this is why it gets turned off in lobbys and stuff). I do share some of your pain.

However, it is kind of entertaining in pubs (when I'm in the mood, and generally on the dispensing end). More importantly, it does give players with a lower skill level/newer players a chance to contribute. Look at CoD, or something like that, where if you're playing against someone a lot better than you, you will probably get owned, simple. However, if TF2 with random crits, you will still lose to this person (most of the time), but it provides the player with a lower skill level a chance of coming out on top, and feeling like they've achieved something. Yes, I know it isn't really down to them being better, its random, but it makes players some players feel like they have a chance, and encourage them to carry on playing, and to hopefully get better.

There was a great article on ubercharged.net about this, though sadly that site is no more (at least for the moment, great shame). Basically, I see what you have to say, but wouldn't go far to say it is "bollocks", they do have their place.

I did search for it, I did see the things on it. I felt it would be nice to bring up against, as with most politics. Things comes up, people change their views. FML.

I don't dislike crits, I just dislike random crits. Would it be impossible for lotus to have a couple of nocrit servers? Having one or two servers with nocrit wouldn't stop the quickplay traffic for all your servers, correct? Just the one that it's disabled on? :/

I can agree it's annoying as fuck but it's part of the game. Deal with it.

You'll be glad they're there when you got about 10 Heavies after you, such as in Payload Race. A few random CROCKETS and pwned. Other than that, doesn't mean shit how much skill you have, there's a tipping point somewhere that will get you.

I have been playing since the release of this frickin' game, and I have yet to find a time where I am happy I got a random crit. I'm using a lot of weapons now as most as I can that doesn't have random krits. Amby, FJ...I apologize after each one, it's completely ridiculous.

Saddens me that we can't get one, though. Albeit understandable.

You're not the only one. Random crits are there to fool the skillless into believing they don't suck so they'll keep playing. Randomness should never determine the outcome of a game. If I wanted that, I'd stay in real life instead of play games. Plenty of random things to fuck you in life.

Out of curiosity, how long was it up? I play Lotus servers only due to a lack of options. The no-crit servers I try to play on don't fill up during my normal play time. If there was a good no-crit server for my schedule I'd abandon Lotus in a heartbeat to donate to that one instead (or continue donations if Lotus owned it), and pretty much everyone I play TF2 with would do the same. We all long for a good no-crit server

Ever heard of Luck? We make our own luck, if you're going to rely on Skill, maybe TF2 isn't the game for you. Isn't that more of COD/CS:S/DoD:S's ally?

Randomness doesn't, but it sure as fuck is a small part of it. Also hilarious seeing the RAGE faces when it DOES happen. m-M-MAGGOTS!

I'm actually unsure, you'll have to ping some of the more experienced nubs, particularly the Staff as I believe they've been here longer. (OLD STAFF, not NEW NUBZ)

I'm unsure of any no-crit servers that actaully have a strong player base, sure there are some around but they are no where near as active as Lotus or other communities. Crits are part of TF2, it's a change that was created during the development from TFC to TF2.

Ever played TFC? Now THAT, was pure skill...and exploit usage. XD

Edit: Forgot to add, some weapons will not do Random Crits, but will actually crit when certain criteria is met. Having no-crits would certainly break this and many others.

i dont see anything wrong with random crits, and I am usually on the receiving end of them, not the giving end.

What is the issue with having fun in games? surely you don't have to be so serious about it that you can no longer see the fun side of it?

Should add, that the game is orientated to be funny. Randomness comes into it, as a Random Crit can throw many things out of balance.

Also, consider this, going against a Heavy with all stock weapons, and you are equipped with a Black Box, Battalion's Backup and a Pain Train. The location is a Payload. How are you going to kill the Heavy with one attack without crits, or reloading for that matter? All three rockets won't finish him, and even if you do manage to fire a fourth, chances are, he's going to be healed enough that you're going to get PWNED. Don't forget about the Pain Train's negative effect, more damage taken from bullets.

Get the picture? If I didn't have random crockets with me Black Box, some of the camping losers would be INCREDIBLY hard to remove. How about that Sniper that's being healed by a Medic?

Bah, I've always just switched to demo to get rid of spawn campers. Rarely takes more than a few seconds. I don't know, for me randomness just isn't fun. It's like let's throw some dice and whoever rolls the higher number wins! YAY! ZOMG SO FUN! Yawn. I guess I just consider FPS and RTS to be the types of games where you stimulate your brain to generate fun, not turn it off and let it rot like an MMORPG. corckets are annoying - but as with any game a major part of it. you would moan if you where on the recieveing end of one (which you obviouly are) but when your the one giving out random kritz - its a different story - im guessing you'd find if funny that everyone else rages about YOUR random kritz?

its not going away - unless you find a no krit server - but then again where is the fun in that? weve had random crits since 2007 and i doubt theyre going to change it now....
