Krash 1,040 #26 Posted January 23, 2013 This is the closest thing i could find without starting a new thread...... I had a Geforce 9800GT for a long time and it ran all my source games, COD's, Fallout 3, ect at fairly high settings. A few months ago it felt like the ol 9800 was just stretching itself too far and upgraded to a 550Ti. Sometime before my upgrade (and still to this day) in certain games I will be running perfectly, the screen will flash to black, and a small line of horizontal static will appear for a split second before going away, and my game will return a few seconds later. I've tried: GPU Drivers: Been persistent throughout 2.8-3.X drivers now. PSU: Should be plenty strong, especially since it's been happening with my original unit. Memory: Also should be plenty strong (more so after my +4gigs a few weeks ago, 8 total now) CPU: Also should be fairly strong, [email protected] (Q9300). GPU Temp: I recall my temps idling around 50, getting up to 60 or 70C ingame. I'll get new numbers. This has been happening for quite a while. Not much has fixed it. Games highly effected would be: TF2, CSS: All green, great performance, the occasional TF2 crash. L4D2: Enjoyed stable, high performance for a long time, but as of late I've been getting this error. Fallout NV: Better performance possibly due to fresh drivers and Razer Game Booster (thanks zzzTNTzzz!) CSGO: Great performance COD4/5/MW2: Great performance....when this error isn't occurring. I get that with my GTX 670 sometimes. In the middle of playing Dark Souls, my screen will flash black as if a driver has stopped running.
Mana 3,867 #28 Posted January 24, 2013 You may joke, but while I was very excited to get my 670 back in May last year, I did also have a bit of a heartfelt goodbye session with my outgoing 6870 (which I sold cheaply to my housemate, so I still get to see her). Also Pro what were you doing with my comment? Prior to moving I had a 5870, 6GB ram, Core i7 920 on a 2560x1600 monitor. That's tech from 2008-2009 and it was able to run all games at that resolution pretty well. Then when I moved I actually downgraded to a Core i7 720, Mobility 5870, 6 GB Ram laptop running at 1600x900. Maxed out on games like Skyrim and Medium-High on ones like Far Cry 3. Haven't felt a need to upgrade in a while thanks to gaming consoles holding everything back. But now the new generation is almost upon us. So new games can start looking better. Then maybe I will feel the need to upgrade.

That's possibly the only downgrade to PC gaming, is the need to have to constantly upgrade your stuff, almost yearly...I have yet to assemble a new PC rig, built one at CyberPower but lack the $800 bananas to pay for it. Even consoles are going to be upgrading soon, they've already announced the 720...wonder how this year will turn out for all of us.

Though on the plus side the games for PC are generally a LOT cheaper than console games. And we get things like Steam. And a mouse.
