Orbit - dBs 179 #1 Posted April 11, 2013 After my laptop broke I am considering to get a new laptop, My parents agreed on two things, either repair the laptop I have now or get a new one The one I was offered was the VAIO Duo 11 Ultrabook laptop, 3rd gen intel core i7 processor and converts from tablet to laptop. Would that be suitable for gaming like TF2?

No longer a Sexy King:^) 5,592 #5 Posted April 11, 2013 You should get something with a better graphic card, in my opinion.
Orbit - dBs 179 #6 Posted April 11, 2013 I also need that laptop for school, i.e documents, essays etc. But if it can handle TF2 it's good enough for me.
- Mike - 2,728 #7 Posted April 11, 2013 Are you dead set on getting a laptop? I used to have one, good processor and such, but with most laptops their graphics card, or lack of is rather shit. Not to mention controlling the temperature. Most laptops aren't too good at dispersing the heat. If you need something for school, why not look at some mini-notebook for taking notes and stuff on and a half decent desktop?
Possum 10,776 #8 Posted April 11, 2013 What I say to everyone: build a desktop if you at all can. You save money, get a build exactly to your need, you learn a LOT if you've never done it before, and you can maintain it yourself. Plenty of people here who can help (myself included). Mike is spot on, laptop gpu's are their weakest point, and heat can be an issue. If you just want it for TF2, its should be fine. Just don't ask it to do much more. Also, 11" screen? That's tiny! Obviously if your parents are buying stuff for you I realise you may not have much choice in the matter (especially if they are IT-illiterate like mine). They bought me my laptop for my 18th and were like"64-bit processor, 4GB of RAM, this thing is awesome". No, a 1.2GHz dual-core cpu is not awesome. I built Artemis (my desktop) a few months later.
Orbit - dBs 179 #9 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) Show me how to build a desktop But for me an 11" laptop is suitable for me, I can't handle a giant desktop screen running tf2 for very long My friend has one and he can run tf2 and CS:GO fairly smoothly, 70-80 for on CS:go from what I see Edited April 11, 2013 by Kyuuji
Possum 10,776 #10 Posted April 11, 2013 Its really not difficult. When I explained it to my Dad, he likened it to an electronic Meccano set. A few good articles: How to build: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/features/379330/how-to-build-a-pc-a-step-by-step-guide Choosing components: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-20-how-to-build-your-own-gaming-pc-article Homour: http://www.cracked.com/blog/12-dangerously-irresponsible-steps-to-building-your-own-pc/ The main virtue you need is patience. Take the time to get the right things, and do a good build.
Irradicator 118 #11 Posted April 11, 2013 Possum if I build myself a PC (or get round to fixing the one on my floor), your video skyping me, I have no clue about what goes on once I take the case apart
Climhazzard 654 #12 Posted April 11, 2013 You can either build your own, from the ground up, or buy a bare-bones kit from new-egg or tiger direct. It's just as it sounds, you buy a pre-made pc kit, with everything in pieces and put it together yourself! This also makes it much cheaper, cuz yer the one doing the labor. You can always upgrade again later.

Never been to the Channel Islands.Seriously though, it may sound daunting if you've never done it before, but it really isnt. Its mostly just slotting things together, and plugging things in. Its quite theraputic actually.
